What is wrong with my circuit braker?
It has been abnormally hot were I live. This afternoon, my son noticed some power fluctuations. Most recently, I've noticed that several appliances/outlets in my kitchen are not working (they were a half hour ago) I've checked my circuit board and one of the breakers for the kitchen has gone to the other side but when I try to move it back, it doesn't stay and stays off. My refrigerator is on this circuit...Help!

You have to reset it. Turn it to the "Off" position, then back on. If it doesn't stay on, then you have a dead short. Or the breaker has gone bad. It does happen, but the short is more likely. Call an electrician.

Turn the breaker to the off position then turn it on. If it does not reset, call a qualified professional electrician to install a new breaker. You should also clean the coils on the refrigerator with a vacuum so the unit works better with less power use. The refrigerator should be on its own circuit. Use an extension cord from a good outlet to keep the unit working if it is still giving you problems.

Try unplugging your refrigerator and then flip the breaker. If it still doesn't flip, your breaker is fried.
What probably happened is that the refrigerator blew the fuse when it kicked on (that's when it draws the most amps) and it probably is kicking on more because your house is hotter. How many other appliances do you have plugged into the same circuit. If you have other bigger appliances(dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, etc..) try to run them when the refrig. just got done with its cycle, or unplug the frig, use them, and then plug the frig back in.

try unplugging all appliances in the kitchen try to reset the breaker if it resets then plug your items back up till one trips the breaker. if it trips you could have a weak breaker, if it will not carry a load or you have a bad appliance in the kitchen, if not that , a bad outlet.

Reset by turning it to Off - it should click off.
Then move it to On - it should stay on.
If i doesn't stay on then unplug all appliance first. Then reset the breaker. Turn each appliance off, plug it in and turn on. You wll thereby find the bad one.
