you can get little ribbons that are professionally made, but customize them to say the name of the show, event, and the placement. when my barn and other barn hold mini schooling shows, thats what they use.

you can give out horse shoes, spray painted gold and with the event and placement written on them. i also like the idea of a halter and lead, because that's something they'll use, but the sizing would be tricky. if you can find a one-size-fits-all customizable halter, that would be cool. you could personalize the noseband to say "winner" or the name of the event or game, or "champion" or something. you could also do those personalized plates that go on the backs of saddles to say something similar. just have fun with it!

you could also give out fun-colored grooming brushes that have the event and placement written or painted on the handle.

You could approch local tack stores and ask them to sponsor your show in return for advertising (thanking them on the schedules, allowing them to bring a stall to the show if they want etc.). They might supply things such as headcollars, grooming brushes etc - useful for everyone!

ADD: If you order rosettes; don't pay to have them customised. Get a silver/gold pen (the kind that write on fabrics - you could use a Sharpie depending on the colours of the rosettes) and write the name of the show/venue on them.

Go to all of the local business and ask for sponsorship in the form of gift certificates etc. It is a great way for them to get publicity and help the community. I do it every year and get gift cards for our local even from places as small as the local donut shop to the best steak house in the county. Good luck

Or actually order in ribbons, not the fancy ribbons, but just smaller ones. People would love those.

They're inexpensive, too.

Get water bottles that say like 1st, 2nd 3rd etc. Then fill it with stuff that reminds you or horses barns etc. Hope that helps.
