  • Teaching men to ride so that the saddle is not painful?

My boyfriend is interested in learning to ride, and is actually learning really quickly, but he's discouraged from learning to trot because the bouncing is really painful on his man parts. I'm not convinced it's a poorly fitting saddle because it's the same one my friend's male trainer uses. He doesn't even want to try learning how to relax his hips to stop the bouncing because it just hurts. I'm not sure how to tell him to position his seat because I am a woman and I know I sit differently on a horse than men do. Tips?

  • Suggested post-gelding exercise routine?

I'm taking on a 4-year old colt as a volunteer/partnership with the humane society who is on the list of horses to be put down soon. He's such a sweetheart, and is relatively handle-able, but he still has his balls.

We're going to pick a date to geld him soon, but I've been hearing some mixed rumors about the post-gelding exercise routine I should implement. One gal at the humane society told me he needs to be lunged three times a day for the first week or so after the surgery, but she has very little experience with horses and I'm not sure where she got her information. We plan on also asking the vet when he comes out to do the procedure, but as far as planning my schedule logistically, I'd like to have an idea ahead of time.

For a 4-year old rescue colt with an unknown past, what do you guys recommend for an exercise program for the first few weeks after his castration surgery?

    Thanks!

  • Remedies for severe sinus congestion?

I developed a cold a few days ago, and while just about all of my symptoms are better now, my nose is still seriously congested. I've never had it this bad in my life.

Over the last few days, it's primarily the right nostril that is clogged up the worst, though sometimes it's both sides. As the days go on it seems to get worse, not better.

I've tried using basic nose spray, which helped on day 1 but hasn't been even the slightest bit effective since. I've also used the Neti Pot a couple of times, and while I can get a steady stream of saltwater solution to go through my sinuses, the moment I stop pouring and blow my nose, the right side is congested again. I've also tried allergy/cold medication/decongestant, and that hasn't made even a small difference.

I am having trouble sleeping and my uneven breathing has given me a headache and a stomachache, so I'm really desperate to find something that works. Please, please help!

  • How much does it cost to keep and maintain a pygmy goat?

How much per month on average does the care for pygmy goats cost? Including feed, vet, (do they need hoof care?) etc?

I feel obliged to add that we are extensively experienced in caring for animals and other livestock, just not goats. Thanks.

  • Do I need a coat of some sort of enamel finish on my project?

I painted brightly colored designs on the exterior sides of the doors to my mom's business. The doors were some sort of metal, (I'm no expert really, I don't know what kind) but after a coat of primer, the paint went on really well. There are several coats of outdoor enamel paint on the doors, and they turned out looking great. If I used paint meant for outdoor projects, do I need to paint a coat of some sort of enamel finish or something to protect it?

    Thanks!

  • I need help translating this English to Swiss German?

My best friend is from Switzerland but has lived in the US for most of his life. He's fluent in both languages, but I don't speak an ounce of Swiss German and I would like to write him a short letter in the language. I would just use Google Translate, but it often makes mistakes and gets the grammar all wrong, and I want it to be as natural and accurate as possible. Here's what I would like to say,

"I know we don't talk nearly as often as we used to, but I want you to know that I still regard you as my best friend and I miss you like crazy. I hope you are having just a great a time in Chicago as you hoped you would; I know I'm loving 'fake school' here in hippie town, and I'm making lovely klepto-magical-not-imaginary friends. Plus there are horses here. Actually, you would probably die if you walked into my dorm room from all my horse clothes lying around. Despite your claims that you have a restraining order, I'm looking forward to seeing you at Christmas. Love you, Asshole."

    (don't ask...)

    Can anyone help me please?

  • Tips and strategies for organizing my college dorm room?

I'm going to be living in a dorm for the first time ever! It's a tiny little room with two XL twin beds that can be bunked, lofted, or on the floor. It also has two small desks and a small closet.

Buuuut.. I have a lot of stuff. Being a girl, I have lots of clothes and shoes, and I'm also bringing all my art supplies, and I'll need to squeeze my mini fridge and microwave in there somewhere. I'm wondering if you guys have any organizing tips or even a list of essential things to bring?

    Thanks guys!

  • Physics/calculus/funnel problem?

In my high school calculus class, we are exploring how water flows through a funnel and whether or not the flow is constant (and then writing an equation that depicts this).

Our lab set up was as follows: one graduated cylinder, a small plastic funnel (around 6 inches in diameter), 300mL of water, and a small stopper for the funnel. We filled the funnel with the 300mL of water, which was placed at the top of the graduated cylinder, and as soon as we un-stoppered it, we started a stopwatch. Every three seconds we recorded how much water has collected in the cylinder.

Our data showed that the flow of water is not constant, and that is in fact faster at the beginning of the trial and slower as more water empties into the graduated cylinder.

What we need help on is explaining WHY this is. No one in our group has actually taken physics class, so we don't have much understanding of how this works. We all assumed that the more water that is in the funnel, the more water pressure there is, therefore it is pushed out of the funnel faster, but after a little internet research we're not so sure that that is actually true.

Can we get any insight from anyone? Or perhaps you could point us in the direction of this information..? (Google hasn't been particularly helpful, maybe it's just our keywords...)

    Thank you!

  • What are some crazy adventures you've had with your best friend?

Stories don't have to involve drinking, illegal behavior, any of that, I'm just writing something and looking for inspiration for two best friends. Please share!

  • Building a website for an equestrian facility?

Long story short: I'm applying for a scholarship that is given to students with "entrepreneurial aspirations" and has "plans for future-self employment." I am attending this college so that I can get the education I need to start my own barn in the distant future.

The whole application is to create a mock-up website for the business we wish to create (I know, WAY cooler than an essay, right?). What I am looking for is kind a survey/poll of what you guys would want to see in a website for an equestrian facility.

My dream barn offers training and boarding, but focuses on riding lessons and 4-H coaching.

What information or pages do YOU want to see on a website? Is there anything you DON'T want to see? What turns you off of a barn, judging only from their site?

    Thank you so much!

  • Just found a rash on the inside of my dog's hind leg?

She's a Shih Tzu/Maltese/Chihuahua mix, about 4 years old, in case you need to know. Just now, my sister pointed out a bright red rash that seems to be in the crook between her inner thigh and her belly on one of her hind legs. I didn't touch it of course, she was upset that we were prying her leg away from her body, but it looked like it could be bites of some kind, but it could easily be irritated by being rubbed or something. It's hard to tell the source, to be honest.

I'm wondering if any human rash treatment products are safe on dogs, or if there are any home remedies for this? Of course, it would be ideal to take her to the vet, but because it's expensive, I'd rather see if we can fix it at home first. We have a couple of different all-natural lotions and creams in the house, and on a person I would usually use Desatin cream, but I'm not going to put anything on her body before I know it's safe for dogs!

Can you tell me if any of those things are safe, or if you know of any other home remedies for a small rash?

    Thank you!

  • How do I import music files from iTunes into iMovie '11?

I tried going to File > Import, but my only options were Movies, Camera Archive, and iMovie HD Project. I also went to the box in the lower right hand corner of the screen, and clicked on the little music note icon, which is supposed to link iMovie with iTunes, but absolutely nothing shows up. It reads as 0 files. This cannot be true because my iTunes account, which I can access perfectly normally, is chock full.

I also tried selecting the track and dragging it into iMovie, but it would not let me drop it anywhere. Ugh, I love the new Mac, but I miss the old iMovie!!

    Please help!

  • How do I insert equation symbols in Microsoft Word on a Mac? PLEASE?

I do not have the newest version of Word. I'm pretty sure it's Microsoft Word X for Mac or something. I'm writing a Calculus paper and I can't figure out how to insert exponents and a matrix. Please, please help me!

People have been telling me to go under Insert ---> Object ---> Equation Editor, but my version doesn't have Equation Editor. I've looked everywhere, and tried the "help" thing. Please help! Thanks!

  • Is the Apple app "Free Music Download Pro" for $0.99 legal and safe?

Of course, in the description it says it's legal, and I assume because its available through the app store it's legal and safe, but I didn't want to download it without asking first.

Please, if you don't mind, mention your sources.

  • How does the "Top Contributor" system work?

Like, how many Top Contributors are there in each section, what qualifies them to receive the badge, etc? I'm curious, because I became a TC in the horse section once, a year or so ago, and then I went on vacation for 2 weeks (thus not visiting Y!A) and lost the badge. I haven't gotten it back...

    Thanks, guys!

  • Is it possible to get leather field boots "taken down" and zippers put in? Where would I do this?

I have a pair of field boots that I've been showing in this year that I really like. They're Ariats, and I got them for a screamin' deal at a tack sale. They fit my foot and calf perfectly, but they're just about a half an inch too tall, and bruise the back of my knee when I ride in them for too long. Is it possible to get them "taken down," like shaving off about a half an inch from the top? I would also like to get zippers put in the back, since they're hard to pull off (I'm sure you all know what THAT's like).

If its possible to get these alterations done, where can I take them? Do most shoe repair places do this, and could I possibly get an estimated cost? Thanks!

  • What are the differences in the different types of hay?

I've only ever leased horses, and at my barn, the hay is included in the board, so I don't know much about it. I've heard of grass hay, Timothy hay, and alfalfa hay, but are there more? What's the difference, besides their obvious appearance and texture? What's the difference in nutritional value?

    Thanks!

  • What is the purpose of dressage wraps?

They are obviously worn different than a polo wrap, and dressage movements are perfectly safe and possible without leg protection, so what is the purpose of the white dressage wraps that dressage horses wear?

    Thanks!
