Tips and strategies for organizing my college dorm room?

I'm going to be living in a dorm for the first time ever! It's a tiny little room with two XL twin beds that can be bunked, lofted, or on the floor. It also has two small desks and a small closet.

Buuuut.. I have a lot of stuff. Being a girl, I have lots of clothes and shoes, and I'm also bringing all my art supplies, and I'll need to squeeze my mini fridge and microwave in there somewhere. I'm wondering if you guys have any organizing tips or even a list of essential things to bring?

Thanks guys!

Put your microwave on top of something. Most people have it on top of their mini-fridge or their desk. Don't bring an extra stand for it!

I suggest either bunking or lofting your beds for extra space. If you loft your bed you might be able to fit your mini-fridge under the bed and if not the mini-fridge you will defiantly be able to fit underbed storage.

Invest in a lot of storage. There are multiple different types of storage to get and what you get just depends on what you think you'll need and what you will use it for. I personally like the plastic drawers the most because I can store my bath towels and books/binders in them. I'm going to post some links to different types of storage you might want to consider.

    Storage to consider:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sterilite-3-Drawer-Wide-... - these come in various sizes and can be used for multiple different purposes. My freshman year of college I used this for clothes, but for the past two years I've used it for books/binders and towels. There are multiple colors available as well.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Wheeled-Storage-Trunk/16... - these come in multiple colors. They can be stored under your bed or at the foot of the bed and are great to keep bulky items in. Winter blankets, extra bedding, winter coats, etc. would be good to store in this.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sterilite-6-Qt-Shoe-Box-... - these come in different sizes and colors. They can easily be stored under the bed and can hold anything and everything. Extra clothes, shoes, extra bedding, duffle bags, etc. can be stored in these.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Generic-05906/19476864 - these come in various colors and I bought some my sophomore year. You can put them up on shelves or on your desk. I stored medicine and small odds and ends like headbands, bobby pins, handheld mirrors, etc. in them.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sterilite-File-Crates-Se... - these crates come in a variety of colors and can be stored anywhere as well. I like these to put binders, books, and notebooks in.

Take the sheets again and trade them. The neighborhood discount outlets make a killing on new student move-in weekend when all of the father and mother detect they needed twin XL as a substitute than ordinary twin. And more than one sets of sheets that fit a long-established comforter will help supply your room a different seem occasionally (my mom finally got me four unique sheet sets and two comforters - brown and tan, navy and blue) and cut back on laundry frequency. Anywhere else but a institution dorm room the idea of milk crate storage is on the whole made enjoyable of - but they work splendidly for storing stuff in dorm rooms, whether in closets, under beds, or stacked in a corner. A basket/small bucket to arrange your toilet stuff is by and large real worthy, exceptionally in case you have a usual bathroom for the floor. I had a 1/2 bookcase which I put on high of my desk for years in the course of school; one lesson realized was that vertical storage beats horizontal storage everyday in a dorm room. Speak to your roommate. Duplicating things is very space ingesting. So, one in all which you can deliver the television, the opposite the DVD. Two stereos are most of the time a waste - choose the nicer one, and share it (within the iPOD age, it is a little distinctive from my era with monster speakers and separate accessories). Share a mini-fridge and microwave. You each and every mainly need your own laptop, however as a substitute of two low-priced printers share one.

I can't agree more! I have way too much!

There are lots of simple things..

I use shoe boxes, and set shoes upright. (Fits about 3-5 pairs per box! Unless they're flip-flops..)

Shoe boxes are also good for storing simple things like leggings, sock, makeup...

I know what you're thinking. Shoe boxes? EWW. But you can paint them and cover them in ribbon. Sky's the limit! =D
