I cannot believe your dentist did not give you pain medication! What a sadistic dentist! Also, he should have given you a list of foods you could have and which ones to avoid, along with other post-surgery directions. Since it doesn't sound like he did that, go to http://www.webmd.com/oral-health/wisdom-tooth-extr... and scroll down to the part that says "what to expect after surgery."
As far as food ideas, I would think any fruit or vegetable that is not acidic could be pureed and consumed. Add chicken broth or veggie broth to mashed potatoes or pureed vegies for flavor, but do not use salt as this will be painful to the wound. Shakes and smoothies would be wonderful, just not too cold. Cool feels wonderful on a sore tooth extraction site, but cold does NOT! Trust me, I had oral surgery to remove 3 teeth at once and I could not eat solid food for 2 weeks! For some shake and smoothie ideas, try http://www.tasteofhomedigital.com/tasteofhome/2008... This is a digital magazine with 30 smoothie recipes and awesome photographs! If you aren't on meds, though, you probably don't feel like making anything for yourself. I would make a list of soft foods you like and send someone to pick them up for you premade, if possible. Jello, chicken broth, cottage cheese, pudding (Jello Pudding Pops are the greatest!), instant potatoes, creamy soups, and things like that require little or no preoparation and will be your best friends for a few days. Best of luck to you, and make your dentist get you some pain pills! That's horrible!

If your tooth is fully erupted you are correct to say that it would be easier to remove than if it was partly erupted or not through at all. But the main problem with wisdom teeth, especially lower ones, is that the shape of the roots is very variable and this can make the tooth difficult to remove. If I were you I would ask the dentist to take an xray of the tooth to see: a. Will it be easy to remove.? b. How much decay is in the tooth - can it be easily filled? Really, the only person who can advise you on your individual problem is a good dentist and it is very unwise to pay any attention at all to the experiences of others whose dental circumstances may well be very different. Sometimes in life you just have to surrender to the advice of the professional - but wouldn't you rather do that than take the advice of someone on a website like this. Good luck.

I feel your pain!! Two months ago I got all four of my wisdom teeth pulled out, so I was sure that I was going to starve to death.
That was until I found out about protein shakes! They fill you up and you don't even have to chew. There are many different flavors and you can mix and match them up, or even add fruits and make your own custom flavors.
My favorites during my healing period included a vanilla protein shake with fresh strawberries blended in and a chocolate protein shake with fresh bananas blended in. I would also add ice too have a cooling effect which helped with my swelling too actually. Just make sure that you don't use a straw with them! I did and got dry socket in two of my sockets! NOT FUN AT ALL, it's worse than the pain right after the anesthesia wears off and pain pills (even vicodin, which I was on) don't work. Other than that, just applesauce in the morning and mashed potatoes at night! lol
Good luck and I hope you find a food that works for you and soon! :)

I lived off of instant mashed potatoes and spaghettios. Pudding too. When I was healing from wisdom tooth extraction.
Oatmeal for breakfast. You could do peas. Basically, anything that does not require chewing.
It's odd that your dentist did not send you home with pain meds.

I feel your pain, since I've gone thru the same situation. Suggestion: milkshakes made in a home blender with bananas or strawberries included in the mix. For protein & energy, make a welsh rarebit with basic cream sauce and cheddar cheese - sinfully rich, just eat with a big spoon. And when you feel even stronger, try this one [my own discovery, honest!]: take a big tablespoon of creamy-style peanutbutter, find your most comfy chair and kick back and s-l-o-w-l-y lick the peanutbutter, a little at a time, off the spoon until you can see the shiny spoon looking back atcha. You might also try a nice scrambly egg - no corners or sharp things in a scrambly egg, but lots of nourishment.

Everyone has had good ideas for what to eat. As for pain, Ibuprofen works better than Aleve for pain. Prescription ibuprofen is given in 600 and 800 mg tablets. When in pain with toothaches, I have taken 4 otc ibuprofen (800 mg) with no ill effects a couple of times a day. Some people have stomach problems with it, so you might take it with food.

No painkillers? That sucks.
I had cream of wheat everyday at breakfast, scrambled eggs for lunch, bananas for lunch no. 2, eggs again for dinner, cottage cheese before bed, and protein shakes, yogurt, or milk whenever else I got hungry.
Did they at least give you ibuprofen? If not, get some over the counter and just double-dose. That's all I needed after day 2.

I had mine out 2 at a time due to insurance restraints. All I was given was prescription strength Ibuprofin, 1 pill (at 800 mg) 3 times a day. It took that "edge" off and allowed me to go forth. They did bleed for about 3 days, but it really tapered off after that.
Casseroles are a good start. If you think about it, most of them tend to be "soft," warm, comforting, and filling. I suggest a nice chicken pot pie or something similar. Maybe even try the "Impossibly Easy Cheeseburger Pie" from Bisquick. It's fairly bland, but filling. It's also easy to spice up by adding cooked onions or Mexican type spices.
Impossibly Easy Cheeseburger Pie
1 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef
1 large onion, chopped (1 cup)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese (4 oz)
1/2 cup Original Bisquick® mix
1 cup milk
2 eggs
Total Time: 10 min
1. Heat oven to 400°F. Spray 9-inch glass pie plate with cooking spray.
2. In 10-inch skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until beef is brown; drain. Stir in salt. Spread in pie plate. Sprinkle with cheese.
3. In small bowl, stir remaining ingredients with fork or wire whisk until blended. Pour into pie plate.
4. Bake about 25 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.

Do not use straws they will make you bleed more. Keep gauze on it until it completely stops bleeding. Take Tylenol or Advil but No Aspirin.
