Which Photoshop is best for what I wish to do?
I have been considering buying Photoshop for some time now, but all reviews and ratings are all over the place and largely from people who do things I don't want to use the program for. Here is what I want to do:
color in hand drawn art
Define and sharpen Hand drawn art
Make realistic effects
Crop photos
I will NOT be printing personal photos, uploading from cameras, or creating albums. I will not use online features.
I also have computers that sometimes struggle with huge tasks, but in general run pretty well and fast. They are basic dell models if that effects anything. Also some pricing info would be excellent for your recommended Models of Photoshop!
thanks

For what you listed go with elements 7. local stores here in fargo/moorhead area sell it for about $65. it uses less of your comp. resources than CS 3 or 4.

The newer the better, but all will accomplish pretty much the same task. The only thing to beware of is DO NOT buy Photoshop Elements, it is not the same program. I would download the trial before you buy it. You will probably get lost at first in all the things about Channels and Layers and Alpha, and filters. There is a learning curve, but you will get the hang of it.
If you really want to save money, then there is an open-source (ie. free) graphics program called GIMP, that is just as powerful as Photoshop but still has the learning curve. And you won't have to worry about rights and terms of use and what-not.
Here are links to both

GIMP 2.6
Hope this helps.

I wouldnt suggest getting photoshop at all. There are plenty of alternatives that are just as good as photoshop but are completely free.
gimp.org - just as powerful as photoshop, similar learning curve
getpaint.net - not quite as powerful, could do most of what you want to do, much smaller learning curve.
I personally use both. I open up paint.net first and on the very rare occasion i need something with more power i open up gimp.
