Incompetent Cervix and Cerclage?
I was diagnosed with an IC 4 years ago when i lost my son at 21 weeks. It has been a long road to recovery and yesterday I found out I am pregnant. For many women it is a time of great expectations, of happiness, of joy, but for people like me It is a time of uncertainty, of fear because I dont know how well this is going to end. I want to be happy but I cant. Has anyone gone through a normal pregnancy (if u have an incompetent cervix) and did you have to get a cerclage? Thanks for sharing your story with me.

Yes. I am currently 37.3 weeks pregnant. I had my cerclage removed yesterday. I had one placed as an emergency when I was 20.4 weeks pregnant. I have had no other complications with this pregnancy. My doctor was unsure if my cervix was incompetent or not but he put the cerclage in just in case. My cervix was only 1.5 cm when it should be 3-4. If I plan on having babies in the future, they will automatically put the cerclage in place around 12 weeks. Do not let this worry you about your pregnancy. I am now 4cm dialated, 90 % and at 0 station. I am now waiting on my son :) If you have any other questions you can email me and Id be glad to help you
The answerer below me said you are not aloud to have sex.
That is false. I was not on bedrest/pelvic rest at all after the cerclage. My doctor advised me to wait 2 weeks after the cerclage was in place before having sex again. Although you may not feel comfortable enough to have sex, I know it was rough on me.

I haven't been in that position personally but I read a lot about it during my last pregnancy.
You will have to get a cerclage, probably around 16 weeks along (according to the book "Your pregnancy week by week" the baby isn't heavy enough to cause the cervix to dilate before then).
From what I've read you should be able to have a normal pregnancy, although you will not be able to have sex during the course of your pregnancy with the cerclage in place.
I'm sorry for your loss, I know that must have been really hard. I had a miscarriage 2 years ago and it tore me apart. Hopefully, you will be able to carry your baby to term this time. Talk to your doctor about when you'll need a cerclage as soon as possible. Good luck!

I am at high risk for cervical incompetence so I get vaginal ultrasounds every 2 weeks. I may still need a cerclage, it's still sort of up in the air because my cervix is starting to thin out.
Basically, between 14-16 weeks, they'll put a cerclage in where its sort of like a draw string on the cervix to keep it closed. Since they'll be putting it in fairly early, you should be fine. They'll continue to monitor you and if it still thins out or dilates, then they'll probably put you on bed rest. Take it easy, no sex (sorry), and you should be ok.

I am so sorry to hear about your troubles...but, it is great that you are pregnant. I went through this also. In my case, I never had the cerclage. But, I understand that if you are going to do it, it must be done earlier rather than later.
Find the best high-risk doctor who has hospital priviledges to the best NICU in your city and stay off of your feet as much as possible. Good Luck! I wish you the best!
