After Jan 1st no individual can change an existing private insurance policy. Thus no competition, plus penalty. . Those who currently have private individual coverage won't be able to change it. Those who leave a company can not buy individual plans from private carriers." You will have to go to the public option. Private insurance will slowly go out of business.

The incentive is for Company plans to hand over the plan to Government thus ridding themselves from the expensive health care they provide now. That real nice Company plan you have now will soon be gone.

Yes, I was really disappointed. I was waiting for the good news, instead, it looks like we seniors are getting screwed along with the rest of the population, except of course, the politicians. Because it will be subsidized by taxes, it will be cheaper than commercial plans, hence, people will abandon private insurance companies. That's why Obama can say "if you like your doctor and insurance plan, you can keep them." He knows they won't be around in ten years. Once everyone is in the public insurance, the government can really ration health care. Premature babies born too early will be allowed to die. Older people who need major surgeries will be denied because it's not cost-effective to use expensive procedures on an older person. Everyone will wait in the long lines for treatment, so many will die. Doctors will be required to use the cheapest treatments, not the best.
