How can we finally stop racism in the US?
Last night, Barack Obama said the police "acted stupidly" when arresting Gates and said it showed how racism still plays a role in this country. Personally, I don't think that race played a role in Gates being arrested for disorderly conduct, but how are we expected to become less racist when our President blatantly accuses police of racism when it is not obvious that there was any? I want to see Americans move forward as a people, so does anyone have any ideas on how to finally put an end to racism, especially in the public sector?
Here is the article I used for the quotes: http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/07/22/harvard.gates.int...
To Incarcerated Bert: He forced his way into his house, so it appeared that he was breaking and entering. The officer asked him to show ID and he refused, leading the officer to believe that the Professor was breaking the law.
Also, I agree that bringing up racism is like throwing a tanturm but if our President brought it up, apparently we all have to talk about it?

We only end racism when and if we stop endorsing it.
EVERYONE must repudiate racists
And that means racists like David Duke, Al Sharpton, Robert Byrd, Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrakhan etc....
That's obviously just a short list but you see what I mean.
Regarding the Gates situation : Let's get the facts straight first shall we.
1. They Police responded to a reported break-in.
2. The home-owner (Gates) at first refused to ID himself to Police.
a) This is because he was in his own house & felt he didn't have to.
3. The Police acted properly in demanding ID because at the time they DID NOT know he was in fact the home-owner.
4. It was the demand by the Police for ID that infuriated the home-owner & caused his outburst.
5.The verbally abusive behavior & language of the home-owner is what led to the arrest of the home-owner on charges of Disorderly Conduct.
6. The arrest was made outside of the house, in full public view.
The only error by the responding Police was in making the arrest while the home-owner was still on his own property.
While their actions were LEGAL, it would have made their case easier if they had continued to walk away until they were on public property when they arrested him.
Just because an Officer has demanded ID in a questionable situation does not mean you have a right to be abusive to him any more than he should be abusive to you.
I find it interesting that so many people are Monday morning quarterbacking the actions by the Police & no one is questioning the behavior of the Professor that escalated the confrontation.
Had the home-owner behaved in a proper manner in the first place none of this would have happened. His own RACIST attitude & behavior towards the Police turned a simple case of mistaken identity into a charged situation & resulted in his arrest.

The more attention you give some issues, the worse they become. Have you ever seen a parent try to "communicate" with a child in full tantrum? Do they stop? Do the tantrums get worse and more frequent?
Racism is certainly one of those issues and very similar to the tantrum of a child.

We can stop it by refusing to placate minorities and give them attention when they cry racism. This is much like a two year old throwing a tantrum when they don't get their way.
The police in Hartford acted accordingly, it was not a racial matter and for the President to say so clearly indicates that he lacks the facts in the case.

He was right. the police did act stupidly. Have you seen Gates? He is fairly old. A good police officer should not have had to call for back up and escalate this thing.
that being said, Gates also acted stupidly.....
We have a very long way to go. There are still high schools in the South that have segregated proms. On Tuesday of this week, in the State of Texas, I saw people carrying Nazi flags and Ayrian Nation flags at a rally....
it will never end as long as there are people like that and as long as they are still having children.

We can eliminate 90 + % of racism if we rid our selves of those who instigate it,Socialists. They gain momentum by causing strife and division, hate and tolerance of unethical behavior,Anti-gun,large all consuming government control, dictatorship, socialist indoctrination through out the entire educational system, special interests, double standards,anti-American rhetoric,anti-Constitution,etc..

He was so wrong to have commented at all on this issue. I agree it showed him a racist. It tainted my opinion of him. Gash, HIM of all people to bring up race in the U.S. Wow.

Stop the affirmative action bull. Make the liberal media stop inflaming racial issues.

It is obvious the police where stupid for arresting black man for forcing his way into his own home.
Maybe we should let all you right-wingnuts have your own state, that would go a long way in fixing the race problems.

Liberals have to stop teaching the blacks to blame their failure on whites.

Anyone who doesn't think racism was a factor in his arrest, is in WHITE DENIAL.
Source(s): The majority of cops in this country are white, racist, and stupid. Sad, but true.
