These are all post-apocolyptic works. There are obviously many, many more, I just picked these as they were books that stood out in my mind.

While its not apacolyptic, it is a dark awesome book. Lullaby or Invisible Monsters from Chuck Palahnuik.

I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream by Harlan Ellison
It is a short story but overral very good.

You won't find anything better than Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank. On the Beach by Nevil Shute is also good.

Extinction Journals by Jeremy Robert Stevens.
This is more of an independent writer, but great story. It is about a man who made a suit of live cockroaches to survive a nuclear attack.

The Stand by Stephan King is the perfect read for you, it is long, but good.
