Got married last weekend and want to start changing my name but my passport will have my maiden name...?

and we are leaving at the end of August for Mexico. I do not want to pay to rush my passport and it not make it in time. Is there any way I can start my name change process and still leave my passport until I get back?

not really sure how it works with a passport but sometimes you can show your marriage certificate showing both names if you dont have the photo id part with the right name yet.

I dont know for sure but if you really want to change everything else you might look in to this and see if that would work

Don't do anything to change your name just yet. wait til after you get back to start going through the process of changeing your name.

Believe me it will be more of a pain in the @$$ if you start changing your name now and don't get your passport in time before your trip. You'll have to go through secondary (at best) they could even go as far as not letting you back into the states b/c you don't have your passport and or your name on your drivers lisence (if you change it through the DMV) doesn't match your bith certifict. Even if you bring your marriage lisence with you it wont help.

That's ok (common actually, since passports are valid 5-10 years depending which country).

Yes, you can definitely change your name on Social Security, Banks, Driver's License etc.

Just bring a copy of your marriage certificate with you when you travel for customs/immigration. If you rent a car you may need it as well if your DL doesn't match your credit card etc.

Just wait until after you return - otherwise you will have to have your passport changed and pay the extra fees.

Changing your name isn't a big deal and doesn't have to be done right away. Just wait until you get back to do it.

Don't bother changing your name. It's not a huge issue right now.

I would wait on that if I were you.

That way you can travel and when you come back, you can change your name.
