Jim, you are wrong. BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer (p2p) system of sharing files which like any other file-sharing system may be used illegally AND LEGALLY. It is true that torrents is the prefered way of most for sharing illegal content, but illegality is not intrinsic to torrents.

As for the question, I use uTorrent which is what most people use. Although during installation they may offer a browser toolbar it is completely optional.

The search bar as you mention is optional. I have no other utorrent sh*t on my computer other than the client itself.

The site appeared down for me aswell, but it is now working (after a couple refreshes).

If you want a Torrent download application . Then, I require download uTorrent . It's tiny, perfect and doesn't force you to download any sh*t stuff . you can get it from http://www.utorrent.com/ .

You can cancel the AskBar installation if you want . UTorrent just gives you the offer and you accept or reject . It doesn't force you .

The only use for Torrents is illegal downloads and so such sites are a law unto themselves. Such a search bar could well be an infection in disguise
