What kind of yard bug do I have and how do I get rid of it?

My yard has some brown, dead, completely bare spots and some others heading that way. I've used Scott's weed and feed fertilizer twice this year, and a pesticide once, a couple weeks ago. I think there's some type of insect burrowing in my grass, killing it. In the dead areas there are holes about 1/2inch in diameter, sometimes with clods of dirt on top. I have seen crickets around. Could this damage be the work of mole crickets? And can you kill them this late in the summer when they're past the larval stage? I live in Missouri, if that helps.

You have the classic signs of Grubs and Chinch Bugs right about now would be the best time to kill them, I would go with Dylox, its a great product. We use that at the company I work for. We just starting spraying a whole community of about 750 homes this week. It should take care of everything for you nice and easy. Apply that and irrigate your grass about 24 hours after application and watch it grow back.
