why is it we can have some people write a farmers almanac telling us when and where the sun will rise and set every day for a year in advance and we can not get a weather man to give us an accurate 7 day forecast?

Because a farmers almanac is based on mathematics prediction the amount of pressure, heat/cold, and humidity of a region at one point (roughly).
Meteorologists' look at what is happening on a world wide scale and use these same figures to predict things to a more focused point of time.

lol, i guess people like to look ahead so we can prepare ourselves for an extremely bad winter or hurricane season. we look for the near future to know what is happening now.
