Toshiba Laptop battery warning?

My adapter has a short in it. I have one on order. In the meantime, is there anything I can turn on on my laptop that will give me a low battery warning so that I don't have to check every 5 minutes?

Update:

That's part of the problem. I don't get any warning. My laptop will just shut off when the battery has drained.

    HI,

    Not sure if you have the replacement of the adapter, however you can use the Power options UPS / battery feature to manage your system battery.

    Go to Control Panel and open Power Options.

    Click on the UPS Tab and set the required features.
