Dog with swollen leg..what to do?
My cousin's dog got his leg swollen about a four days ago...He's been licking his leg so much that his hair is falling off. She doesn't want to take him to the vet cuz is too expensive..so wants to know if there is anything that can be done at home?
Thanks, Erika

If your cousin is too cheap to take this sick dog to the vet then the dog should be surrendered to a no kill shelter and she should never get another dog.
I'm sick to death of people on here who own dogs that need vet attention who won't pay for vet fees. It's no secret that vets are expensive. We all know that when we decide to own a dog.
Anyone who can't or won't pay for proper vet care should not own an animal.
If someone sees this dog in this condition, hopefully they will put your cheapskate cousin in and she'll be charged with animal cruelty and cop a hefty fine and a conviction.

The dog needs to see a vet. Call your humane society and ask if they know of any vets who are on the less expensive side. Or, if they know of any who will allow someone to make payments if they don't have the money to pay the bill in full at the time of the visit.
Find a way to get the dog taken care of though. The poor thing is obviously in distress if he's licking the hair off of his leg.

If you value your dogs at all, then you will take it to the vet. Your dog is more than likely in a great amount of pain, and is probably really suffering.
Now, ask yourself this:
Is your dog life worth a little bit of money spent on its care? If your answer is no, then I suggest rehoming the dog right his second.
If you got the dog in the first place you made a commitment to care for that living thing. The dog is your responsibility and you need to step up to the plate and take proper care for your dog.
How exactly would you feel if your mom or dad refused to take you to the hospital if you had something like a broken foot? Seems rather abusive, dont you think?
Did you know people can get arrested for inproper care/ not going to the vet when the pet needs help because it is animal cruelty?
Seriously, the dog needs medical attention obviously, and you are the one who can provide that!

Nope. He needs a vet. The longer she waits, the more expensive the infection is going to get. Cheaper to go now and pay for antibiotics than to have to pay for amputation in another week. Or, if the neighbor calls animal control, to have to pay the $1500 for refusing to get treatment. I'd say the $100 for vet visit and antibiotics now is a steal. Otherwise, she can drop it off at her local shelter where they will treat and then find it a good home with an owner that cares enough to seek vet care.

Dogs don't just "get" swollen legs, something happened to make it swell. Take it to the vet, it's only going to get worse. Poor dog.

i think a vet is an only option..srry unless u want a dog with a sick leg?
thats like if you have a kid and he broke his leg and didnt want to take him to a doctor cus its 2 expensive

HERES WHAT YOU DO PUT A ICE BAG ON THE LEG AND SEE IF THE SWELLING IS GOING DOWN OUNCE IT DOES OR IT IS STILL SWELLED THEN TAKE YOU DOG TO THE VET.
YOU COULD GO LOOK UP VETS THAT ARE MORE AFFORDABLE

yeah the vet is the best solution... putting it off just makes your dogs suffering stretched out.. sorry, i know how vets can be expensive :(
