Tomato paste in a tube in Canada?
Hello everyone!
So, I have seen several chefs on TV using tomato paste in a tube. I asked a friend to grab me some when she travelled to the USofA and I absolutely love it! She was able to get it at WalMart down there.
Does anyone know if Walmart Canada sells it? Or any other store....?
Thanks bunches!
In Canada, we have tomato paste in a can. It is about 3 oz. If I only need a tablespoon or 2, there is half a can left and it gets thrown out.
That's why I am looking for the tube specifically.
I am near Kitchener, ON.
Tom - Awesome idea! Thanks for that!
Unknown chef - Thank you. I will check out the european delis.

I am a former chef, and from Canada and live in Toronto now, it is not as common as in some areas of Canada and the US, I have bought it here, in European delis and food stores, alot depends on the city you live in, I have not seen here and our Walmart is in a mainly Italian-Portuguses area.
I would check with any European based grocery/deli/meat shops in town, you may also find in those operations it is kept in the refrigerated section. Like anchovy paste, it can come in a large tube like toothpaste is here or small, like a ointment type package, it keeps well, so buy it in the size your going to use the most, let me know if you have problems.
Try downtown Kitchener (the German Deli on King St), DiPietros in Cambridge.

I know you are looking for the tube, but the cans are infinitely more economical. What I do on a lazy Saturday morning is portion out tablespoon size globs of tomato paste from the can and put them on a clean dinner plate. Then I pop them in the freezer until they are frozen. Then the frozen globs go into a freezer zip-top bag. There is zero waste, they will keep in the freezer indefinitely, and you have measured tomato sauce at the ready whenever you need it, simply throw the frozen glob into your sauce/recipe. I hope this helps!

Most larger grocery stores should sell it. I'm from Canada and my mother buys 2x concentrated tomato paste.
