Pres Obama invited Prof Gates and the cop who arrested him for a beer at the White House Your opinion please?

I think doing this is beyond the understanding of many people on this site. Healing means to come together (a cut finger heals when it comes together). We are all whole but become dis-eased. We get off balance. We forget the truth. Something got off balance in the situation that brought these people together. We can only guess what led up to what happened & what really happened. There are different perspectives. President Obama takes the perspective of what is holy. If people would study holistic health or Christianity they would see that he is using these philosophies as a way to make life better. It takes a lot of courage & a lot of faith. He could have been like Bush & shrugged his shoulders & defended his comment & wiggled his ears & looked like a moron & then went on to the next disaster. He chose to find the good in this. In every healing there is a gift, there is good, their is God (higher level). He is taking the high road as he always does. If only some people would suspend their beliefs or whatever the call what the right wing tells them & just observe this process. We are not going to be in the room & involved but I know this is a transformational experience. Anyone who considers them self a Christian & puts this down can find a more positive perspective if they really look into what Jesus said about turning the other cheek & loving thy neighbor & becoming one with our enemy.

It sounds stupid to me. I guess Obama thinks officer Crowley is just a dumb cop and he will be all giddy because he got to have beers with the Messiah. Why would he want to have beers with a guy who called him stupid and another who pretty much called him a racist? You pretty much can't turn down an invite from the President, but it seems to be there should be apologies forthcoming from both Obama and Gates. I won't hold my breath on that one. If this is all that is going to come to this Obama would be better off forgetting it altogether and spending some more time on the Health care Plan...which is still in need of a lot of work to make it mean anything at all..

All this is going to "teach" the nation is that even in 2009, with a man of colour in the White House, it's still OK for a white cop to unfairly target a black man...and no justice will be done.

Obama has rolled over. Ever the populist, he is more afraid of alienating his non black base than doing the right thing. I guess he figures he has finally moved past the point in his life where this will happen to him ever again...and screw any other black man.

I just hope Professor Gates sticks to his word and refuses to resolve the issue until he receives an apology.

I think it is a very healthy thing and and represents a chance to get a very healthy national debate on race relations. BTW have you seen Prof Gates. He is a very tiny man. maybe 5' 4" who walks with a cane. He sure was not much of a threat to the cop.

I don't know exactly what happened that night, neither do I know what his conversations were like with the cop and the professor. I do know that inviting people to discuss differences over a drink is the classic act of a gentleman. Very stately.

I am amazed how disgusted people are that Obama wanted to resolve difference through dialogue and by creating an understanding.

Obama really stuck his foot in his mouth when he got involved in this. Inviting both participants to the WH for a beer and some talk seems to be the most graceful option available to him at this point.

I think this whole deal is a tempest in a teapot. This is one way to end it graciously on all the participants parts, and an invitation to an informal meeting at the White House is a great way to do it.

There was no apology, the meeting failed. Gates is the racist, First off Gates became a professor through affirmative-action policies, which says much. Instead of being cooperative with the police who were trying to protect his own property on a tip from a neighbour who seen Gates breaking in the door of his own home, Gates chose to treat the white officers with distain.

If the officers were black there would be no problem at all, but because they were white Gates resisted, and was arrested. You'd think Gates should be charged with a hate crime because of his treatment toward white officers.

Hispanic animosity toward White folk is evident with the large La Raza (The Race) membership and their willingness to march waiving the Mexican flag in the United States. The abhorrent violence in Mexico and the complete willingness of the population there to not only accept it, but to embrace it and to flaunt it offends the sensibilities of Americans and makes White folks in America question how they plan on creating a peaceful society here? -After all, the areas in the US with high Hispanic/Latino populations are infested with gang activity and diseases long cured in America like leprosy.

Upon creating the most prosperous, peaceful, philanthropic and liberty-spreading society the world has ever known, White folks in the US could have sided with Germany in WWII. –Yet America decided to INCLUDE foreigners into our society and within twenty years of the conclusion of the war we did just that by passing the “civil rights” & “voting rights” bills in the US. –But equality was not the goal of minorities as is currently being found out, domination and oppression of White folks is the goal.

The backlash against minority oppression and special privilege is starting to really resonate with the majority. As average Americans witness Obama and the communist (Democrats) loot the national treasury and create social programs for minorities at the expense of the majority who now realize they are little more than “rich white land-owners” to the minority who hope to tax their children of their national inheritance.
