...I know I'm spelling it wrong, and I've tried a handful of different ways to spell it, but cannot find the correct answer.

The best I can come up with is this: Characher.

If this isn't clear (and I'm sure it's not), the meaning is a drawing or a piece of art that mocks the model by using exaggerated and unattractive features.

So how on Earth do you spell it?! Thanks.
