What would happen if Pinocchio said "My nose will now grow"?

Nothing ever said his nose wouldn't grow for reasons other than a lie.

One should ask him what he's seeing that would make his wood (nose) grow.

The facts are:

1. Pinocchio's nose will grow if he lies

2. Pinocchio's nose will not grow if he tells the truth

By saying this he is stating a future, is he lying? or telling the truth?

This statement is dependent on the past, so therefore it cannot be answered, whether his nose would grow or not, because we do not know if he just told a lie before saying this, or told the truth, because with each past, there are two outcome

i.If he lied and told the truth- his nose would grow and shrink back

ii. If he told the truth and and lied- his nose would shrink, and grow back

"The train will arrive at 10 am" is not a lie if the expectation is that it will arrive at 10 am, but it does not.

Presumptions of future events can be neither lie nor truth. If Pinocchio presumed his nose would grow, then he presumed he told a lie just previous to that statement.

If his presumtion of having told a lie turns out to be true, his nose will grow. If what he said turns out to be a truth (unknown by him as a truth) his nose will not grow.

If he made no prior statement AND IF it requires a prior lie to make his nose grow, then the statement is a lie and his nose will grow.

Well, would it really be a lie in the first place? I've thought about this "riddle" before. My guess is that it would remain the same or the time being and eventually it would if he were to tell another lie. But if his argument was that it was going to grow and he knew it wasn't, then yes, it would grow.

The space time continuum would run out of his nose and the universe would explode - kind of like my head is doing now. What a paradox? Good question.

No, his nose would grow anyway. I don't recall, in the context of the story, that he had a choice in the matter. If you think his just saying it would stop it from growing, the next time you feel a cold coming on, you can try saying "I will not get a cold."

lies follow facts, technically you cannot lie about the future. Because the fact has not taken place yet.

Even is he says that his nose will grow NOW. It is still referring to an event in the future. So it wouldn't be a lie.

edit: but if he says something will happen and it does not happen he did not lie he was just wrong.

"He" would grow, but his nose would stay the same size. No wait, he's nose WILL grow, because.....uuhh, No, thats not right, he is telling the truth, because normally it wouldn't grow so by saying that it "will" is a lie, but the sentence he speaks is saying that it will, so the lie is the truth, so his nose would shake a little, but not get fooled by the words; The Answer: It will shake a little, but not grow.

When he lie's his nose's grows but when he tells the truth nothing happens however he might be lieing?Becuase he's saying and its not happening....then his nose might get bigger lol!

If he is lying that it will grow, it will grow... but therefore he was saying the truth so it should have not grown!!!

Same if he is saying the truth, it should not grow...but since it did not grow he was lying so it should have grown!!!
