10 year old having surgery to lose weight?

Do you think it`s too young to have this done, the parents say he didn`t eat much but as they were 26 and 24 stone before having surgery themselves how do they know what is a small amount or not, they must have eaten a vast amount to get to that size, they had no medical problem as an excuse as they say for the 10 yr old, I have an under active thyroid and take medication, i am a bit overweight and will be on a diet for the rest of my life, I think people will eat huge amounts to get fat then expect an operation on the NHS

Update:

it isn`t my child, I read about it in the paper, i think it`s insane too.

Update 2:

does anyone read questions correctly, Isabell, IT IS NOT ME OR MY FAMILY WHO NEEDS TO LOSE WEIGHT, read the question again when your sober!

It's disgusting, obviously they over fed him and can't be bothered to eat healthily.

Absolutely too young! There are all kinds of potential health problems that could arise from having a surgery anyways let alone being that young. I think they should wait until they're older and in the meantime try diet and exercise. Surgery is not a quick fix.

That's terrible for a 10 year old to have to go through with that! My husband and I were talking this morning about obese people who get that way because of being lazy and over eating when nothing is wrong with them.

    Answer mine please?
