When should I get my period, after I stopped taking birth control?

I was on birth control for 6 months, after 5 months I switched to a different brand due to unwanted side effects, then when I got my period on the brand I switched to, I stopped taking it. The last time I had my period was from June 24 to June 28.

I had un protected sex a day or two after I stopped taking my birth control, but I've taken many pregnancy tests and I am sure I am not pregnant.

I've heard it could take up to 3 months for your period to come back, is that true? Anyone have any expirence?

Yes - it is normal "post-pills" to have irregular periods - as your body is weaning off the pill hormones - and your natural hormones are readjusting -- However, if you are trying to not get pregnant - use another BC - (like condoms) - as you do not know when you are ovulating - The July 6th period was the end of the "cycle" for the pills you had taken the previous month - So you've only been without BC hormones since the middle of July - So - soon the be 5 months off pills -the Sept period would have ended Oct 4th or 5th - Next period would have been due the end of Oct - which didn't happen -- so you've only missed Oct and Nov - Most Drs wouldn't consider this unusual until you've missed 4-6 periods coming off the pills - So, by the end of Jan or Feb - if you have not had a period - I would definitely call the Dr. and get a check up -- (my sister went 10 months, then found out she had a "tipped" uterus) - So, there could be something else going on other than Pills - If you are trying to get pregnant - you can better your chances by getting an "ovulation" indicator - which will give you a better idea of when you are "fertile" - When I came off pills - trying to get pregnant - I had 2 periods - and a boy! Good luck -

on "the pill" you should have a period once a month, or 28 day cycle.

If you had unprotected sex, oh BAD! and you have taken the test and only getting a neg. back, your in need of a doctor now.

Here is what is going on.

Your body is a factory, it is set up to have babies, you have changed what the body runs on, your first pill was different and then, different dosage or type the second pill and your body is in confusion.

It will come back at you with a mind of it's own. When you get your next cycle it will be lite or But, but it will not be normal, it will take a second time around for your body to reset your body clock and get it right without other hormones in your body.

  • I stopped my Pills on May 8TH after 10 months. I got AF may 10th and ovulated on CD 21 and got my Period on June 11th. So My cycle picked right up as normal.

Since I was Taking my Temp I could visually see as the hormones tapered off in my system and that took only 11 days.

The way it works is that it is high in progesteronee which is dominate after you ovulate so the pill tricks your body into thinking you ovulated so you wont release another egg. Normally the increase in progesteron increases your resting temp and as AF is about to arrive it lowers back to PRE ovulation temps.

Thats true. It takes a while for your body to get used to it's own hormones again.
