Doesn't a Goddess and God make more sense than a just a male God?

Lets assume there is a deity... would it not make more sense that the deity be a goddess and a god, and that the goddess have more important role?

1. The deity created, or gave birth to, the universe. Also, the world was populated with life. This points to a goddess, since in the animal and human worlds it is always the female that does the populating. This would indicate there would need to be a male deity as well, at least in the role of celestial sperm donor.

2. The Earth is ruled in cycles which coorespond to the female "systems." The yearly seasons are a cycle of the beginnings of fertility in spring, the pregnant abundance of summer, followed by the harvest or "birth" of crops in autumn, and the menopause of winter.

The cycles of the moon have been noticed through time to also coorespond to the menstrual cycle of women.

3. The closest humans can get to being gods is to create life, and life is always created and carried in the wombs of women, not men. All human life came primarily from women, with men playing a supportive role to varying degrees.

4. All babies in the womb begin as female, and males develop from females according to hormones dictated by x and y chromosomes. Thus, all men are actually part female.

5. Since humanity views deity as nurturing and raising humanity, doesn't a female deity make more sense as a nurturer and raiser of her children.

6. Would a lone, male deity make a world that depended largely on the female to reporduce? Would a male deity who was solely responsible for creation devise a system in which the male contribution to the creation of life was so minimal.

Update:

"No. Women are more prone to making emotional judgments over logical ones."

Yeah, you'd never catch a male deity destroying the entire world by flood because his kids were ticking him off.

Update 2:

Wideboy, I can post links, too:

First worship was a goddess only latter in history was there a god.

For a time even the Hebrews had a goddess. Most society's were aware of the important role that females played in their creation process.

Most of the original creation stories had a female deity in the star role. Yes the female reproductive cycle was of great influence in many of the concepts of early man.

Most people are not aware of the fact that all fetus are female until about the beginning of the second trimester. Females are xx chromosomes, males are xy.

The position I take is that a male form is what the deity has chosen for Himself.

    2. The Earth is ruled in cycles which coorespond to the female "systems." The yearly seasons are a cycle of the beginnings of fertility in spring, the pregnant abundance of summer, followed by the harvest or "birth" of crops in autumn, and the menopause of winter.

The moon is a heap of rock. I don't recall being educated of it's female organs, while I was in any type of schooling

    3. The closest humans can get to being gods is to create life, and life is always created and carried in the wombs of women, not men. All human life came primarily from women, with men playing a supportive role to varying degrees.<<

While life is created in a female womb, my theological position is that is what the male (who chose his identity) made her that way.

    4. All babies in the womb begin as female, and males develop from females according to hormones dictated by x and y chromosomes. Thus, all men are actually part female.<<

There is a distinction between the two that cannot be undone. And, when one thing becomes something else, it cannot reasonably be stated that it is still in it's original form.

    5. Since humanity views deity as nurturing and raising humanity, doesn't a female deity make more sense as a nurturer and raiser of her children.<<

No. Women are more prone to making emotional judgments over logical ones.

As I mentioned in my first answer, I take the position that this is what the male deity chose. Based on His full testimony, I find it fruitless to assume that His claim is fraudulent. I also do not believe that it is appropriate to change someone else's message. In literature, it is referred to as plagiarism.

EDIT: Well, I suppose it's a good thing I'm following a perfect God and not an average man or an average woman.

Er, you'll need to research what religion. "Paganism" includes any religion that isn't christianity/judaism/islam and "Goth" is a subculture, not a faith. Are you only looking up these religions because you like to wear black? I did that too, a long time ago, so I'm not calling you out on it or anything, but you may be ridiculed by people who are really serious about those religions. Just to warn you. If you live in New England, the Unitarian Universalist church is the closest. Very liberal, all encompassing church with a lot of pagans and agnostics. And open-minded christians. If you're looking into wiccanism, you'll want to find a Coven. They aren't easy to find, try googling "covens in my area." There are numerous other pagan religions, but they are very uncommon, even more so than wiccanism. You probably won't be able to form a group. They hold festivals though, particularly for Samhain, Solstice, etc. If you're looking for Satanism, I recommend hanging around your local Hot Topic.

The thing is though that G-d has aspects of both genders. To say that G-d is either male or female is ridiculous. G-d has no genitalia, is not corporeal, so to say G-d is either one is just silly. The only reason G-d is referred to as a He in traditional sources is because in Hebrew there are no neutral genders and the Torah was written by man who would naturally have used the male pronoun, but even then it was understood that G-d is not male, or female. Or rather G-d can be considered both. In Judaism G-d is understood to have both male and female aspects.

    god is not. period.

a pair of gods makes more sense in antropocentric religions who claim that humans were created in god's image. because the god must be two creatures, then.

funny thing is that those religions usually claim that there is one only god.

from the deistic(?) point of view, a non human, nonsexual entity does not need a partner for supposed creation. even though, watch the first sentence ^^

oh my. the part 2. is hillarious

are you aware that deer mate in fall??

that there are various plants that FLOWER in winter?

that the temperate, four seasons climate is NOT PRESENT at the pole or at the equator?

that there's SUMMER in Australia when there's WINTER in Europe and US?

the menstruation cycle of females follows the moon cycle only IN AVERAGE. it lags if they have not enough food, for instance. it shuffles so it fits the closed population (=pack, dormitory)

  • Well, neither make sense, but okay. I'll entertain your hypothetical for a second.

A female and male is needed for proper reproduction. So, if god/goddess "created" the world....

    >.<

God is neither male or female. The creator is only referred to as male because that is the traditional way.

  • 1 decade ago

Also, man is alleged to have been made in "god's" image. Since man -- as in, "humanity" -- consists of males and females, one would expect a similar godhood.

God is neither male nor female.

  • 1 decade ago

No. God actually has no Gender.

We only speak of God in the male term because the only other choice is "It" which implies something that has no life, & hence would be blasphemous to address God as such.
