Can you think of any genre names that don't sound like their respective genre?
For example "metal", "grunge", "jazz", "funk", "polka" as WORDS all pretty much sound like those genres. So, can you think of any that DON'T?
Also, if you could change the name of an existing genre to something more appropriate, which genre name would you change?
Also, if you could give one of your favorite bands/artists their very own genre that totally encompasses their sound, what would you call that genre? (please be descriptive and not just something like "awesomeness")

Shoegazing! I mean when I first heard of it I didn't have a clue what it sounded like. Then when I actually started listening to it I was still confused about where the name came from. The name actually comes from the fact that a lot of the bands would just stare down at their instruments while playing and hardly move a muscle.
I would change shoegazing to avalanche rock as most of it sounds like an avalanche of feedback and distortion. Although I'm not saying that that's a bad thing.
I would call the Stone Roses a psycha-dance as a lot of there sound encompasses psychedelic music that has a very danceable beat to it.

If i am understanding the question correctly you are asking for the name of a band
I will say "The Moody Blues"
Ok Recovering from now being not so perplexing. Kenny G was never Jazz influence that i hear him playing nothing Jazz about him Maybe Hard beat
Chicago ah try and take a guess? Folk Jazz. blues they often played stuff outside of their repetior. Compound multi faceted I would call the, Just one cool thing after another (They often remind me of The Band's "Big Pink" release.) Sorry my message took such a while i think i see what you are asking. Good question I just would have said it differently

When I heard the term for, "thrash metal" I was confused. Someone described it to me as an 11 year old girl as, "Metal with a beat"
So that term has always confused me. I would just call it Metal.
Post-Punk reminds me of like Post-Apocalyptic or something. Like everyone in Punk exploded...
I don't even know what I would change it to.
Huh...Your last question is hard.
Neutral Milk Hotel, and they are like Folk, Rock, Indie, Garage fusion. So I would call it Forcdieage.

I would change the name of the new adventurous jazz to something other than "jazz".
Today's adventurous jazz sounds nothing like what most people think of when they hear the word "jazz". Today's sounds not a whole lot like Charlie Parker, Louis Armstrong, etc.. Its a whole new bag.

New wave. I think that sounds more like a washing machine or air conditioning function than a music genre lol. =D
