Waltzing Matilda
I always play Russian Roulette in my head. It's seventeen black and twenty-nine red. How far from the gutter? How far from the pew? I will always remember to forget about you. A good man is hard to find. Only strangers sleep in my bed. And my favorite words are "Good-bye" And my favorite color is red. Good-bye!
Can you think of any genre names that don't sound like their respective genre?
For example "metal", "grunge", "jazz", "funk", "polka" as WORDS all pretty much sound like those genres. So, can you think of any that DON'T?
Also, if you could change the name of an existing genre to something more appropriate, which genre name would you change?
Also, if you could give one of your favorite bands/artists their very own genre that totally encompasses their sound, what would you call that genre? (please be descriptive and not just something like "awesomeness")

14 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoR&P: Would you like to participate in an experiment?
Have you ever received a lot of thumbs up for an answer and no thumbs down and been tempted to edit it into complete rubbish, but didn't because you didn't want to let your contacts down? Well now's your chance!
Part 1: Write a music-related statement you think would get a lot of thumbs up from your fellow R&Pers.
Part 2: Wait for the thumbs up. (While you're waiting, feel free to thumbs up other great responses!)
Part 3: Go back in, delete everything you wrote, and enter in the most distasteful, absurd, politically incorrect nonsense you've been dying to shout out in public!
Go!
(I'm sensing this experiment will result in failure, but that's nothing I'm not used to, so whatever.)

8 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoYou'd think that people would have had enough of silly sad poems?
Are sad poems as prevalent in poetry as love songs are in music?
Well I for one have had enough! Let's get happy people! If only for a little while.... What do you think of my poem?
Ipanema….
The name alone
puts a Jobim bounce in my step
The boardwalk’s alive
but no see no hot papis yet
The pink thong bikini
is an invitation to stare
But the only accepts
are flabby men with too much hair
No matter, no matter
I enjoy their warm pervy grins
And how the sun’s juicy lips
leaves lipstick sweat on my skin
And how my Skol’s crispy taste
brings out the beach’s fuzzy glow
Like the sunshine on the ocean
swimming in the tide’s ebb and flow
Brazil! Brazil! I love Brazil!
Capoeira on sand
Havaianas on feet
Bronze on body
Romance on tongue
I’m melting! I’m melting! From the bliss of it all!
I’ll be a puddle for sure
if I live here for good
Better get back on the plane
And stay solid in the States
I probably should have stayed with the same form throughout, but I just got too excited, I couldn't help but break out of it!!! Is that forgiveable?
6 AnswersPoetry1 decade agoCan you think of any instrumentalists who sing like their instruments?
To explain-- My vocal coach (yes, I took singing lessons for a bit, but it didn't work out, so don't ask me to sing for you!) once told me that if a musician is trained on an instrument before they learn to sing properly, they sing like that instrument. For example, he said I was singing like a piano (my primary instrument) in that I wasn't sliding the notes together, but singing them more individually as if they were piano keys.
I think about this every time I hear Steve Vai (primarily a guitarist) sing:

Do you think he sings like a guitar?
Can you think of any other examples?

2 AnswersOther - Music1 decade agoWhat songs sound like they’re exorcising the songwriter’s demons?
You know, like, there was a monster eating the songwriter up inside and they just needed to put it in a song to get it out of them?
BQ: This question was inspired by the real answer to why I chose writing as a profession. But there’s a line in a Tom Waits song—“If I exorcise my devils, well my angels may leave too”. Should I be worried about that?
15 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoNeil Young vs. Michael Jackson!?
READ THE WHOLE QUESTION BEFORE YOU ANSWER!
In Neil Young’s song “Old Man”, there’s a line that goes, “Doesn’t mean that much to me to mean that much you,” the "you" being his fans. To Michael Jackson, on the other hand, his fans meant the world to him. When they screamed, “I LOVE YOU MICHAEL!”, he would say “I love you more” back and mean it whole-heartedly.
These are just two extreme examples, but in general, do you think a singer/songwriter’s attitude to their fans is reflected in their music at all? Or does it not make much of a difference?
BQ: In your favorite sport, how important is fan loyalty?
