Did you hear that Rand (not Ron) Paul will be running for Senate in KY?

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) ― A Kentucky ophthalmologist who has been eyeing a U.S. Senate campaign says he will run for the seat now held by Jim Bunning.
Republican Rand Paul of Bowling Green ended months of speculation Wednesday when he told The Associated Press in an interview that he is entering the race. Paul told the AP of his decision in advance of a series of planned media events, including an appearance on national television Wednesday evening.
Paul had been considering running even before the 77-year-old Bunning announced last week that he intends to retire when his second term ends next year.
Paul is the son of former presidential candidate Ron Paul, a Texas lawmaker who ran in last year's Republican primaries.

'Ophthalmologist who has been eyeing', bet they didn't see that coming.
I hope he does get a seat, Kentucky is going downhill fast under Gov Bashear. (Dem)

I saw him interviewed on "The Rachel Maddow Show" a few months ago. He seems somewhat sensible and coherent. Must've inherited it from his mother. Or maybe it skipped a generation. Or maybe whatever Ron's got skipped Rand's generation. Either way, he's a step up (at least) from his father.
And he would definitely be a step up from Jim Bunning: Great pitcher in his time, but a political lunatic.

That is good news.. Now if we could pull Barry Goldwater jr out of retirement we might be able to get some real conservatives back in DC to lead the way and force the neo-cons back the the Democratic party where they came from.

That makes sense. Ron is a Texan so can't run in Kentucky.

Yep. I think it is great. There is a supporter money bomb for him going on August 20. People who want to contribute are supposed to donate to his official campaign site, which has been spiffed up for his announcement he is running, today.
