Comic Book Industry Dying?

Ok so I was going to open house to an art school today and one of the programs I'm interested in is Game Art & Design.

I asked one of the teachers there if I should go into cartooning (because I want to be a comic book illustrator) or a game designer (because I love games). Hell, I actually want to...go back and forth a bit, I know the industries both overlap sometimes. The teacher said it's better to go into gaming because the comic industry is dying and not much money is made there unless you're big.

ANYWAYS, my real question is, is the comic industry dying? I haven't even herd of talk about it dying. I actually think it's getting bigger. What are your opinions about it? Also, should I go into gaming or go into cartooning, will it really matter if I want to do some stuff for both industries? I'm also aware about the money issue but that's a chance I'm willing to take.

It is true that comic industry is dying but there are many people who still go out and buy comics. However, many people do not want to spend their money on comics. They either read it online or download the file from the Internet, which is pretty sad.

    Hope this helped ;)

I don't know about you but I quit comics for quite awhile. I only started all over again last year because of the Marvel: Civil War. I was quite impressed with the grittiness that Marvel has adopted. I also started collected X-Men again and went to search for back issues to catch up on what I had missed. Other comics that I am glad I still collect are Top Cow Comic's Witchblade and The Darkness. The story and artwork have improved since the time I stopped. I have also completed my missing issues for them since the time I stopped. As for DC, I have never really been a big fan but a friend of mine who collects DC comics has told me about some of the recent stories which are pretty good. Crisis of Infinite Earths and Green Lantern: The Sinestro War. I also heard that DC plans to kill off Batman. I believe this is a response to the death of Captain America from Marvel.

I think with Anime and Manga being introduced to North America the industry is actually becoming HUGE! Also many movies these days are based off of comic books (GI Joe, X-Men, Avatar, est) I think she might be wrong, but hey, that's just me!
