Where in the constitution does it authorize federal insurance?

I would like to know, where in the founding documents of this country, it states that the federal government is supposed to control business, health care, social security, or any government program.

Besides defending this country from enemies, and defending our rights, where is the rest of this authorization.

Update:

While I will agree with a lot of you. It does not authorize torture, it does not authorize anything with reproductive rights, it does not authorize marriage or unions, it does not authorize anything, except for the defense of this country from our enemies, and to defend our rights. My rights extend to the point that they violate someone else's rights, nothing more. To make me pay for something that I do not believe in is ludicrous. And to make me pay for somebody else, when I have my own family to support is crazy.

And the general welfare clause did not mean the individual, it was referring to the prosperity of the union.

Everything was supposed to be left up to the states. If idaho wants UHC, then Idaho can have UHC. Then people can decide if they want to live in Idaho (Not to pick on idaho)

Update 2:

Big Brodie - While I agree that the founders would not have any idea of todays political and social, I contend that does not matter. The federal government is not in the business of protecting people from there own stupid mistakes. To bail out my neighbor because he decided to gamble away his mortgage is slaps people who do right. The government does not have any money, it belongs to the people and it is not up to the government to spend it without just cause. The people still have the power, it was government that created the mess, by regulating business, to the point of extinction. Look where that has gotten us - no manufacturing and a smaller middle class.

I'm sure this is an attempt at proving a point that insurance is not a right. However, I'm still confused as to why you continue to support the birth of future welfare recepients/ deadbeats but won't let them get insurance to reassure them their health...Just like every problem, you started this one too

Okay this is not hard. If you read the Constitution it mentions that what is not covered in the Constitution can be made law by Congress with the approval of the President as evident of his signing off on it. Then the Constitution provides for the Supreme Court to review that law to ensure it conforms.

What made the founding fathers smarter than you is that they realized that life as it was in the 18th Century would be last forever and they made the document flexible but with check and balances.

Try to keep in mind that the founding fathers had no frame of reference for the problems we face now. They didn't have huge corporations capable of imploding the entire financial system of the country. They didn't rely on large corporations as the foundation of the nation's military.

Back then social security wasn't necessary because it was the responsibility of the wealthy landowners to take care all the people that worked for them.

The authorization you asked for came from congresses and presidents that date back to the early 20th Century. This President and Congress is just following through. I believe Nixon and the Congress then worked out the details of Medicare. Social Security was FDR and the Congress that was in session then. Regulating businesses started with Hoover and FDR with agencies such as the ICC.

I read the constitution with my kid for a school assignment recently, and was amazed at how many times it gets trampled on by our government. For the life of me I can't understand how anyone can even argue these things!

I mean, really... the 2nd amendment is pretty clear, and yet these morons ban guns! But then again, these sheep just shrug and say, "whattayagonnado? You can't fight city hall."

Do you realize they pass every single big entitlement by simply saying "the rich will pay for it"? The Income Tax bill was supposed to be only charge to the top 1%. As was social security and medicare... but we all pay for those, right? But, here they go again, saying the same old thing, and all idiot sheep on the left follow right in lock step

"presently, even the commerce Clause exception does no longer justify regulating insurance on the Federal point." that's carefully fake. In usa v. South-jap Underwriters association, the excellent courtroom ruled that the federal government can alter all insurance firms in the US, under the commerce clause. Congress did no longer choose this authority and had to bypass a regulation to flow it to the states.

Ah, this reminds of me Jefferson vs. Hamilton.

Alexander Hamilton argued that although it wasn't direct, it was an implied right. Something about the welfare of the people, etc.

Article 1 (thats the part about Congress,) section 8 (that would be the part about the powers of Congress,) clause one (that would be the part about the point of Congress' power) it says "promote the general welfare (welfare has to do with prosperity.)

Reality, if your congressman isn't helping your district prosper (fiscally) then they won't get re-elected (this was the grand plan all along)

That authority only exists in the eye of the beholder and right now the beholder is that bunch of clowns in DC ie. white house senate, house of misrepresenting et al.

Let me tell you all of a hard reality. Our present health care system has some serious flaws. For instance, when you hear of a senior that committed suicide due to poor health, they more than likely did it due to lack of insurance.

You see, such people have a choice wiping out their savings to live a few years longer and thereby leave their spouse financially destitute, or they can put a gun to their head.

Welcome to America's health care nightmare. Pray you don't get in that situation.

I guess the dems tell you nothing, i understand. If you are old then you wont get treatment, if you are overweight you wont get treatment. If you a child you wont get treatment. If you are between the ages of 15 and 50 you will be ok unless you need surgury. It can take months to yrs before you get it. Look into the canada and any other national healthcare plan. O is trying to pass this fast but Americans are already awake to his plan. Becareful! Im 37 so im ok but I worry about older people.

Where in the Constitution does it say the government can't have a public option? No one is controlling business, so I have no idea what you're talking about there. Where does the Constitution say the government can control a woman's reproductive choices? Where does it say we can invade countries preemptively?
