air conditioner unit is cooling but leaking water all over the garage. Is it normal? Is it from high humidity?

I hope it is not coming from your drip pan in the attic. If so forget it you will probably need a whole new system. A/C units for the homes only last about 10 yrs. to 12 yrs. in general. I would recommend if money is a issue that you go out and buy a window unit or two. About 8,000 BTU they will cost about $148 each and should cool down your home until you can afford to replace the entire system. Probably run you about $5,000 and up. Hope this helps you.

Don't panic. Your problem is relatively minor, at least in the short run. You have a case of cold meets hot. The hot, wet air from the attic is finding it's way to the cool metal grille and the result is condensation. Take the grille down from the ceiling and look at the metal can that the grille fastens to. If there is a space between the can and the drywall, seal this thoroughly with latex caulk, using your finger to insure a tight seal. If the problem persists, it's time for plan B. Plan B consists of crawling into the attic, finding the metal can, and wrapping it with batt insulation like a fur coat. Use spray adhesive to attach the insulation to the can. This will prevent the cool metal from the can from meeting the hot wet attic air and forming condensation. In the long run, we need to figure out why your ducts are cold and your humidity is high to the point that condensation is a problem. I suspect that you may have some issues with a dirty evaporator coil, or improperly sized return or supply ducts. But, first things first! Good luck!

That it's producing water just means that it's working.

That the water is leaking means that either the drain line is clogged or thet the condensate pan has rusted through.

Both are simple mechanical problems that are 'DIY doable'.

If there's water coming out ot the drain pipe I'd guess the problem is

a hole in the drain pan, (but do check that the inlet at the top is clear).

You can probably find, and fix it with plumbers epoxy putty,

'Goop" , or a similar product.

You will have to find the leak, shut down the unit, and dry the pan,

so that the repair will hold.

Usually there are drain holes on the outside bottom. check to see if they are plugged.If it's still working after 16 years then it was a good model. it should still be good for another 16 with a little tlc.

the condensasion thats making the puddles come from this thing in the air conditioner called the mtl (main tinkering lodger) it usually stats to do this when there is high humidity and it is old.
