Need help with LAN connection?
I had to do a clean install on a computer that was (and still is) running Windows 2000 Professional. I was able to connect to the internet until I did the install. Now the LAN connection is not showing in the wizard. I have an ethernet connection to the computer. It's just an old decrepit E-Machine, but it's still in working order, so i use it as a secondary. In the device manager it shows " PCI simple communications controller". But when I try to enable it, it tells me to upgrade or install the driver. The driver does not seem to be listed. And...no LAN icon in the connect wizard. What do I need to do?
I've tried going to the E-Machines site. They no longer have the drivers for this particular model, and in the support and downloads (also by phone) it says I would have to go the "pay a fee" route. I cannot afford this, as it costs one dollar per minute or I have to buy a subscription, which i cannot afford either.

Download the driver from the E-Machines website.
You'll need the model number of your computer to search for the appropriate driver.
EDIT: Post the model, I'll get the driver.

You need to go to the E-Machines website.
Go to the Support Download Drivers - Section
Look for Network or Ethernet Drivers there.

If you remember the original description name, you can receive the drivers from it's manufacturer website. Most of the parts you get from Intel and Realtek from makers. They usually keep the drivers on their sites for a few years before outdating and deleting them.
You can also use third party software to identify them such as Driver Detective, but I don't trust them to download the drivers as they are outdated themselves.

Hello i think your problem would be the drivers, try to go on another computer and go on the emachines website and look for your drivers then put them on a usb flash drive and transfer to the emachine
