What would you pay for this rifle?

I have a new in the box Ruger mini 14 tactical rifle (.223/5.56) with 4 new unfired Ruger 20 rnd magazines I am going to sell.

MSRP for the rifle without the magazines is $788.00

what would you pay for it?

shoot safe

Update:

Greg, I too build AR 15 rifles. Having probably built over 200 of them. And yes, I know what they can do and cost to build. If you can find the parts right now. But, the new tactical Mini 14 is a hell of a great rifle. I have two others that I use all the time. Much more accurate than the older mini's, with a better finish, synthetic stock, forward accessory rail and scope rings, rear ghost ring apeture sight etc They outshine the early rifles in performance, acuracy and reliability.

I think I will ask $700 with the 4 mags, and maybe consider a trade for an enclosed trailer that would haul a full dress Harley, or maybe a partial trade for a S&W 686 etc.

Update 2:

ready2hu, I agree that is a good sale price, but don't forget for the average guy to order it, he has to pay shipping and a local dealer to do the paperwork, still works out to more than I am asking. But your point is valid, who pays MSRP for anything in this day and age.

Thanks everyone for all your input, I'll leave the question up for tonight to see if I get any more input (or offers to buy ) ;0)

Exactly that or less. I'd say go with $750.00 or $800.00 either way.

To a friend, I probably hook a good price up. To a stranger such as myself, nothing less than what's stated above. lol.

*On Gregg's comment, I agree. However, if what you're selling is what the buyer actually wants, without having to build or alter anything, than I'd say stick with that price. You can always drop your asking price if it doesn't work out. Know what I mean? There are always those "gotta have it" type of people out there, and if it's worth it than it's sold; and I believe it is. Your item, your price.

** After the Edit and reading through everyone's answers, I say to stick with the plan. I think the price you are looking to ask is good. Someone will pick it up for that and if not, you can always negotiate one way or another. Good luck!

Randy, to be completely honest with you, in immaculate condition, I wouldn't pay a penny over $500... and that is with all four magazines included in the deal. The mini-14 is a finely crafted rifle, I will admit, but when I can build an AR-15 to my exact specifications for about the same price as the Mini-14 is new, I could put together a better rifle with more options. If I were you, I'd keep the Mini-14, and use it. They are a good rifle, I just find them to be overpriced for what they are.

Randy: I do agree, the Mini-14 is indeed a hell of a good rifle. It'll never fail you in any respect. As another said, it is worth what someone will pay, and there are people who will buy it for that price because that is what they want. I just am not the type to spend that kind of moolah on a gun that I don't have a use for (all of my Bolt-actions, lever-actions, and single shots cover those uses). I want to see someone like you get the $700+ for the gun though, it would be a dirty thing if someone tried to rip you off like that(my price quote would be horrible I admit).

The mags are $40 each. That brings the total package to $948. If I didn't have a semi auto carbine, I would pay $800 to a private seller for everything. I would choose the Mini over the AR and AK. I read that the new Mini's are more accurate than prior productions, making possible 1" groups at 100 yards. Also, it sounds like the Mini's gas piston system is very reliable. So you get a rifle that is almost as accurate as an AR and almost as reliable as an AK. At $800 with four 20 rd mags that sounds like a good deal.

The MSRP might be $788.00, but let's be realistic. Nobody pays MSRP. Here's a link for for a Ruger Mini 14 tactical that the MSRP is listed as $894.00 but can be bought for $684 new from the dealer. With that said, I think your asking price with the magazines of $700 is fair. Here's the link. See if it's similar to yours.

Good luck and I hope you get your asking price.

Edit: Randy you're absolutely right. Something else I thought about later is no sales tax if bought from you. That makes your $700 offer even more attractive.

i think if you maybe throw in about 50-100 rounds of ammo you could get 800 for it.

but to sell it to a friend i would cut them a deal and hook them up for about 700 or 725

but if you sweeten the deal with some ammo then you should be able to sell it with out a problem for 800

    good luck mate!

I would prob offer to spend about $650 w/o mags, prob $675-700 w/

its hard to say w/o actually seeing it, but i would personally stick with that amount, you may be able to coax more if your a goof salesman
