is there something i can use on my cat's long hair?

he's a long haired cat and though i try to brush him fairly regularly he gets awful mats. he won't let me brush his chest and belly. is there something with no odor that i can use on his hair to help prevent mats?

I have two long haired cats, and I have to comb them daily with a wide-tooth stainless steel comb (I use one that I found in the dog grooming section). Grooming with a slicker brush or a FURminator can also help to remove the hair that tends to mat. To remove mats that are already there, you will probably have to get a professional cat groomer to shave your cat in the areas where the mats are.

You can take him to the groomer or your vet and have them give him a "lion cut". This will make him look like a little lion. We have to do this with our mother and father in laws cat. However, I do it myself since he is soooo good and lets me do it. NEVER use scissors on him though as you can cut him so easily! Use actual clippers.
