Where to find a baby guinea pig?

I live in NY, About and hour north of NYC and 15mins from PA and NJ. I want to find a breeder so i can get a baby guinea pig for my Boyfriend.

I absolutely hate and will not drive to or through NYC. The closest breeder i found was in Long Island. i don't want to travel there i would drive no more than an hour and a half. I looked on Petfinder and they only have adult guinea pigs. i would really like a baby/young. I want a breeder. Does anyone know of a breeder that is close to me? Is there a website that list breeders in my area?

Finding a guinea pig breeder may be tougher than you think.

Most guinea pig breeders sell to pet shops, and you should look there first. Most pet shops offer a great variety of guinea pigs, and guarantee their health.

If you are set against buying from a pet store, I would recommend either

1)asking a pet store where they get their pigs from, and trying to contact the breeder directly on your own or

2)looking in your local paper for guinea pigs for sale. They may not come from a "breeder" but may have been hand raised by someone who owns a guinea pig in your area. You can also try online sites like craigslist.

    Good luck.
