Don't you think India is lagging behind because it takes too many holidays for useless hindu festivals ?

I totally agree wid u . 2day we had the same discussion in the class. ya its wrong to have so many holidays as it make the ppl lazy.this is why we have all the resources butnt able to utilize 2 the fullest bcoz of so many off days on the contrary. europe dont have so may and still they r far ahead

Your are right. Don't get upset by the answers of people offending you, on your remarks! The festivals totally having a religious orientation is fast changing into a different class of celebrations diluting the original spirit of the festivals. However, the holidays for the festivals does not halt our nation progress and the festivals do not have the hold on the economy of the nation! Yes, there are too many holidays in a year, mainly to the Government departments due to various socio-political reasons. However they are not a serious issue as compared to INDIFFERENCE TO WORK AND ETHICS by the people, which needs to be forced upon them! Unless our political and administrative masters are made accountable for all the wrongdoings and penalised quickly, our society cannot have the change which you want or demand.

The meaning of religious festivals are more important and if they are followed in the right way, it is good for all of us to live in peace, BUT unfortunately this has also gone down and they are now highly commercialised loosing its true values for human emancipation!

India is lagging behind for many reasons but this doesn't mean that you should blame it on holidays and festival.

every countries have according to there society allocated some festival's. as India is having unity in diversity we have large no. festivals.now take example of America they have Christmas vacation in December and that's it and so they decided to have weekend scheme i.e take Saturdays and Sundays as holidays.

indian society instead just gave holidays on Sunday and decided to go on religious holidays so number of American holidays and indian holidays would be approx will be same.but still America is advanced than India and so point is that development doesn't depend on 4 extra holidays in a month but depends on work done by that person in remaining working days!

moreover if you have studied history Lokmanya Tilak used festivals like Ganesha Chaturthi and others to unify people against Britishers thus this festivals binds our society and makes India the place to live in differently.

I completely agree with isa..... and it is the fault of the politicians not the festivals..as India is a secular country all the festivals of all the religions are treated equally..so if they are giving holidays for hindu festivals they have to give holidays for the festivals of other religions also...so don't worry about India's development it will happen when these politicians would want it ..and would see the condition of India..you enjoy the holidays and have fun on all the festivals!

Personally I think that is an unfair description. Holidays and festivals hold deep religious and significant importance to any given country. It helps keep the countries moral up. It gives the people something to look forward to, which often needed in this day and age.

useless festivals? in what way do you mean useless? just because the festivals are indian and don't relate to you does not mean that they are useless..

thats like someone telling us to stop taking christmas off because it is useless and we can be working instead..the festivals are there for a reason and are in celebration of certain things and have become a tradition

india is a nation rich with culture and tradition and no matter how advanced it becomes, it will still preserve that no matter what

Bakrid (Eidul-Aduha) is in memory of the sacrifice executed by Abraham.The relation between GOD and his creation and full dedication to GOD has been symbolized in this festival .Any human being recognizing this historical action shall celebrate Bakrid. Irrespective of region ,religion those who believe as the descendants of Adam and Eve shall celebrate this festival.

Irrespective of holidays, our bureaucrats, govt servants and politicians are not working therefore we are lagging behind. This is ground reality.
