Why won't Obama tell us who makes up the 46 Million "uninsured"?

Obama says there are 47 MILLION uninsured in the US

Now lets readjust those numbers based on available census data

1 ( - 14 Million )Fourteen million of the 47 million are already eligible for government insurance, Medicaid, but have not signed up. (Pre-existing conditions do not exclude someone from joining Medicaid.) Those 14 million have not signed up because they do not want to pay the small monthly premium that Medicare charges. As a result, many who are eligible for Medicaid wait until they need care before they register. They are effectively insured at all times even when they are not formally enrolled in the program.

2 ( - 9.5 Million ) non-citizens.

3 (4.5 Million ) people who are eligible for Medicaid or S-CHIP but have not enrolled. If they need care, the hospital or clinic generally enrolls them. In other words, they do not (as Obama claims) go bankrupt or without treatment.

4. ( - 10 Million ) Those that make more than 3x the poverty level (50k/yr or more) but choose not to have coverage.

Leaves around 8 Million.. ok..now we got something to work with..of those 5 million are between the ages of 18-34 and don't feel the need to have coverage.

That leaves around 3 Million. Ok.. Take the stupid a$$ Clunkers program that will spend 3 BILLION ....

Give the remaining 3 million a $1000 each to purchase their own high deductible private plan.

Repeal the laws that prohibit interstate sales of insurance (like auto)..nation wide competition to bring prices down.

Obama's plan - Government controlled health care for all - 1 Trillion

Simple plan - 3 Billion, Gov has no managerial role

Still think he "cares" about the people and this is truly about health care ?

Update:

sorry.. one time he said 47. the other he said 46

Update 2:

Morpheus... to not question what numbers they use is willful ignorance on your part

Update 3:

EDIT > Madart...

Name me 1, just 1 instance of anyone dying in this country because they refused treatment...

YOU CAN'T.. because it's a FELONY

Read the census report and find out for yourself. There is one bill proposed by Senator Ted Kennedy in the Senate that will cost $600,000 over ten years (let me repeat, OVER TEN YEARS). The House plan that cleared Congressman Waxman's committee is expected to cost $1,000,000,000,000 ($1 trillion) OVER TEN YEARS. The three bills proposed in the Senate are still in committee; however, once they are out of committee and voted upon by our Senators, the once chosen in the House (Waxman's bill) and the one selected in the Senate will then go to "reconciliation" where any differences will be ironed out. The insurance industry right now is vicious in many cases, and very very profit driven at the expense of their customers (the families currently covered). Premiums have risen each year at a rate that is 3x the cost of inflation. Each year! For every 2.5% pay increase you may get at work, you LOSE 7.5% in coverage, so you fall further and further behind in terms of bang for your earned buck.

If you paid attention to CNN, which had Politico on today, you'd learn what some of us learned at the President's last town hall meeting: No illegal immigrants are covered in any of the proposed legislation. I even used the whitehouse.gov line to suggest that countries of origin should be assessed a monetary amount to cover all expenses for each illegal immigrant allowed to cross our borders before they can come anywhere near our jobs, our schools, or our medical care. I further propose that anyone who hires illegal immigrants should pay a huge fine the first time, but should have his/her company placed into receivership if there is a subsequent infraction and the owner should do prison time.

If you are an American, why would you object to even 45 million or 40 million fellow Americans having access to affordable and quality care? Such an objection would be just plain mean-spirited and stone cold selfish wouldn't it? You are already paying when they use the Emergency Rooms as clinics because all those costs are passed onto you through higher insurance premiums for you or your employer, which means less money for raises for you, and at any time the insurance company may decide to drop you if you become ill or injured. Under President Obama's proposal, insurance companies can no longer drop people who have paid their premiums simply because that person now has an illness or injury. This is a GOOD thing!

By the way, one thousand dollars would not fix the predatory practices of the greed-driven insurance industry and in many cases would not be nearly enough to pay for a comprehensive policy. President Obama's proposal and Henry Waxman's are better for the American people.

Here's my uninsured list, and it's nowhere near 46 million: Joe, Ted, Millie, Fran, Patti, Michelle, Ana, Cindy, Carole, John, Bob, Andy, Tom, Regina, Arthur, Mark, Rhonda, Larry, Nancy, Whitney, MaryJane, Sher, Robin, Roy, Randy, Paul, Gary, Theresa, Kim, Yvette, Yvonne, Martha, MJ, Jose, Theo, Ronald, Rick, Pam, Jenna, Billy, Sam, Roland, Charlie, Jeff, Sandy, Armando, Orlando, Mindi, Candi, Dianna, Roberta, Claire, Carlo, Laughnie, Rob, Lars, George, Donald, Elvira, Russ, Maureen, Donna, Samantha, Alfonse, Janet, Colleen, Carrie, Bruce, Tracy, Terri, Tammy, Ellie, Caleb, Natalie, Maya, June, Edna, Clark, Kathleen and Amanda.

Everybody else has insurance. I can tell that you'll agree that we should let these worthless people just shrivel up and die.

What a moron that Obama is- I bet he thinks the Holocaust really happened, too.

    Liar.

$1000 for high deductible private plan huh? that takes care of 1 month, and what about that high deductible? Pointless.. might as well flush that $1000 for all the good that would do.

Only children, the disabled and pregnant women qualify for medicaid.

in 2005 29% of AMERICANS earned less than 200% of the federal poverty level (roughly 40k) I don't think that number has gone down during a recession.

You are missing quite a few people.

How about the people who have insurance but the insurance refuses to cover life saving procedures, medicines or tests? People have died waiting or treatment to be approved because insurance companies make money by denying coverage. I personally know someone who died in her mid thirties because the insurance company made her wait 6 months for a mammogram.

How about the people whose COBRA will run out soon and have preexisting conditions? If they can't find a job they are at the mercy of insurance companies. In California, they are required to sell insurance to you if there is no gap in coverage but there is no cap on what they can charge- so they charge ridiculous premiums that unemployed people cannot afford.

How about those who bought insurance and think they are covered only to find out that they are woefully under-insured.

You know the majority of bankruptcies are caused by medical bills and the majority of those people have insurance. Same with the majority of foreclosures.

You are minimizing a huge problem. The only people to gain from not reforming health care are those who are getting rich off the current system.

Ok lets go through your numbers:

5 million are between 18-34.Nope Actually, only about 40 percent of the uninsured are between 18 and 34, according to the Census. That is above 15 million. They don't have insurance usually because it isn't offered to them through work and they can't afford it yet by themselves.

Two-thirds earn less than 200 percent of the federal poverty threshold and can't afford insurance. Of course that includes most of the 18-34 year olds.

9.7 million are immigrants. Of them half are legal residents that pay taxes. You know foreign professors and teachers that pay taxes.

In truth the number you are looking for is higher than 20 million. But we aren't certain exactly what it is.

It was a dig at Fox and all the fools who somehow think it means something other than : what's up? Hi! How are you? Michele was one of the first female black graduates of Princeton.

18-34 year olds, who are healthy and fit, can get an inexpensive catastrophic policy for an unforeseen major injury or health problem. Allow everyone to start a tax deferred health savings account which can only be used for health related expenses. Looks good to me.

He doesn't really care, he has one objective in mind, the destruction of the United States, and the formation of one world government.

$1000 ? Are you nuts? My 20 year old healthy son has been offered Cobra coverage at $300 a month for high deductible coverage.

It's all so easy to fix if you just make stuff up.
