Since you frame it as a yes or no question, the simple answer at this moment is yes since all Republicans and all Blue Dog Democrats oppose a public option on the grounds that it may prove too popular with consumers thus negatively impacting the market for private sector health insurance which requires large volumes of relatively healthy people whose insurance they can rescind or curtail when they become too unhealthy to turn a profit. In other words, those politicians who value a free market system of rationing health care to Americans who are under the age of 65 and not impoverished will prevail this year over those politicians who believe that the system of providing health care through private sector insurance plans is both inefficient and ineffective, as the overall level of health care expenditures approaches 18% of GDP, and inequitable, the latter of which is never a winning argument with free marketeers.
Ultimately, non-profit co-operatives will either prove attractive and draw sufficient numbers of patients to force actual competition or they won't and total health care costs will continue to climb crowding out the other important types of economic activity that would make our economy more stable and capable of real growth.
In other words, since the Executive and legislative branches are clearly focused on the necessity for preserving a free market for private health care insurance plans so that no one can call them the dreaded "s" word, there will be the bare minimum of health care reform. That tends to undermine the whole system of American health care in the long run, but these are hardly long run thinkers since they are all likely to be out of office and making lots of money in the private sector when the **** hits the fan some years from now.
It's another "Profiles in Courage" moment facilitated by the Blue Dog Democrats, and liberal Democrats should just make sure that the President's bill is properly entitled the Baucus-Ross-Grassley-Conrad Health Care Reform Act of 2009 so that there is no question about who deserves the credit or the blame, as the case may be.

Well, typical of libs, they blame conservatives and the moneyed private interests for their failure, when the Times accurately points out that it is seniors that have overwhelmingly opposed this plan, and because they are worried that the plan intends to gut their coverage to pay for the 15% of uninsured americans.
So turns out the moderate Democrats, worried about the 2010 election, have backed off supporting the current plan. without them, the libs are dead.
All this from a very liberal NY Times.
Ahh libs just cant help themselves. Never wrong... they always have to point at the big bad Conservatives as the evil ones.
Expect "Bush Lied Healthcare Died" as their next slogan.

The American people are winning. It has never been just conservatives who were opposed to the current plan, but rather a large cross section of people including moderates and independents. The idea that it is only conservatives was the image the White House tried to present. All opposition was just a bunch of right wing zealots with no ideas. I think Obama's latest road trip might have finally brought home the reality of the scope and size of the opposition.

Only one small battle. They are ideologues and will not give up. Get ready for a fast track bill in Sept.
Remember Drill now. August recess and oh yes the Democrats had seen the light they would vote to drill now. What came about was Drill Anywhere you want except where there is oil.

In truth, I think we'll all end up losing. It's clear that ObamaCare is a stiff; even many moderate Dems are nervous about voting for it. But once this proposal fails, nothing further will be done, and there are things that could be done to improve the existing healthcare system like tort reform.

Not yet.
There's a heck of a lot of crap still in that bill that needs to go. My biggest concern now is that the insurance plans cannot enroll new members without having a comprehensive coverage that the government requires.

For the moment..America and Freedom have the upper hand but make no mistake, the socialists are working hard behind the scenes. They're just re-grouping for the next attack.
