External HDD..........?
I am going to buy a 500gb external HDD to squeeze a bit of life out of my computer before i buy a new one. I have pre-ordered Windows 7 Ultimate and was wondering...When i get the HDD and Windows 7 i want to know how to install W7 on the external HDD. I know when you put in the disk it asks what partion or HDD you want it on, but if i have W7 on my external and Windows Vista on my internal, how will the bootup be? Will i be able to choose between the C drive and the D drive when i boot (like a multi-boot)? And in msconfig, the boot timeout is the maount of time untill it chooses the default OS, correct? Thanks in advance and sorry if im a bit confusing!
I will wait an extra hour if i need to. I have filled my 200gb internal and need more room (id rather keep my computer because it is about 2 years old). So it will look like a dual-boot correct? Or will i get a command prompt and have to type in the drive?

Yes it will have a boot selection screen asking you whether you want to use a previous version or the new version of Windows.

It can be done. However, depending on the quality of your harddrive (speed, buffer, connection) you will be seeing absurdly long startup times.
Windows 7 requires a lot of resources to run, and I dont believe you would be satisfied with the slow speed that it will run at on an external drive.

You are right it can be done. But do you really want to wait for a boot from the external?
