Could anyone tell me if Im considered a Veteran?

I went to Boot Camp for the National Guards way back in 1981.

I was in the National Guards for 2 years then had some complications.

I ended getting a General Discharge.

Would I be considered a Veteran and beable to get Veteran Benefits..? If so where would I go to check into this.?

In order to be considered a Vet you need to have at least 180 days federal active service or been deployed...

    PEACETIME 8-May-1975

    1-Aug-1990

180 days of regular active duty service and a last discharge or release under honorable conditions

Under the bill veteran status is extended to peacetime veterans with 180 days of active duty who were honorably discharged from the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force or Coast Guard.

    Also recognized are:

Peacetime veterans with fewer than 180 days active duty who were awarded service-connected disabilities.

National Guard and Reserve members with 90 days of regular active service.

American Merchant Marines who served in armed conflict between Dec. 7, 1941, and Dec. 31, 1946.

This what is from My states' Veteran website... So according to this No You are not a vet and do not have enough time in to qualify

And Active Duty for Training.. ( going to boot for the guard) does NOT count because you are under title 32 orders, not title 10

title 10 is full fed active duty... title 32 is state active duty,,, You need FEDERAL active duty

if you have to ask if your a veteran, you most likely arent.

You shouldnt want the same benifits that men who fought and nearly died get. Men that will never forget that they are veterans, because they cant forget the sh*t theyve been through

I believe that you would, in fact, be considered a veteran. But you should check with your County's Veteran Service Officer to confirm that.

Yes, you are Vet. Call the VA and find out what you are still eligible for, 1.800.827.1000. You are past any GI Bill education benies, but there are some others items that you may still qualify for. And it's VA.GOV, not ORG.
