I've still have that scar on my forehead because some religious nut threw a brick at me, and my dad refuses to speak a=or look at me even until today.

Still, I'm glad that most of my friends who are religious helped me out.

Im not an atheist nor an agnostic. Im most certainly not religious. Most religions teach that if you dont practice the same way as they do, you should be converted, if you cant be converted you should be shunned because your doomed. I personally think thats a really evil way to think. I know this is off topic so to answer your question. Since Atheism seems to be a bit in the minority amd there is an over abundance of religions and churches. I would guess an athiest would be treated badly and discriminated alot. Or at least given funny looks or called not so nice things.

I'vee never been on the receiving end of any discrimination because I'm an atheist, maybe that is because I Live in England where atheism is the norm.

Source(s): edit: Halfstar reminded me, when I was about 9 I asked the R.E. teacher why god let babies starve, bearing in mind I wanted to be 'a good girl' I just wanted to understand. She got cross with me as she fumbled to explain and punished me by making me stand in the coridioor for a whole term. I was really upset I'd never been in trouble before and was so ashamed. That teacher made my life a misery for the rest of my primary years, she hated me and let it be known. I wasn't an atheist but she put me on the road to it, I so didn't want to be cold and cruel like her. Funny thing is I still don't understand any of the answers I've heard to that question.

Most recently (several years ago) a customer tried to get me fired because they kept trying to tell me about Jesus until I finally told them I am an atheist. It was in a matter of fact tone, and I kept it on a professional level. My company backed me... most of us there are atheists or agnostics. We told them we would not work for them in the future due to their discriminatory practices before they had a chance to tell us they wouldn't hire us again.

For the most part, I went to a parochial school so I saw first-hand how Christians talk about non-Christians behind their backs, so I know to hide it from them in most situations.

I was kept out of my Grade 4 Religious Instruction class and made to do comprehension exercises alone instead. In the end i asked to be put back in. It was mainly just singing religious songs for an hour a week

I'm not an atheist, but I do believe in God, just not the one that the three main have chosen. I believe there is a God, but I don't believe this God wants us to kill for our differences or for men to be superior above a woman because his reproductive organs are outside of his body. In any case, it would be the woman who is further evolved. We're mammals. Mammals used to lay eggs (many ages ago). When the dinosaurs died out, other life formed. Eggs used to be stolen and eaten. Mammals evolved (females) to lay the eggs INSIDE of the body to prevent theft and to provide more protection. Wouldn't it make intellectual sense to say that women are more evolved, because men's organs are STILL on the outside?

Someone tried to refuse to give me food at McDonald's after I turned down someone handing out bibles, and they overheard me explain, after the person asked why, that I wasn't religious.. And most of the patrons agreed. So I talked to the manager and he was good about it. Thankfully, I don't actually LIVE in that area it happened in.
