Do the Yahoo Q&A atheists hang out anywhere other than here?
I really miss Yahoo360 and all my old R&S pals. Is there any equivalent anymore?
18 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat are your thoughts about an "atheist house"?
I've been thinking for awhile about buying a large house and renting rooms out to fellow atheists. There would be some ground rules, like chores, must be able to play nice with others, strongly encouraging acceptance of other house members, having group activities (like games, exercise, etc).
The idea would be to have a group of rational-minded individuals that would form a type of extended family.
1. Do you think such an idea would work?
2. Would you be interested in such a house?
10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoShould churches be tax-exempt?
Jesus said, "give onto Caesar that which is Caesar's" (or something along those lines). Right now, Americans are facing massive debt and if we taxed the revenue taken in by churches like we do other businesses, then we'd see lower taxes for all of us.
Should we remove the unConstitutional exemption that religions have regarding taxes?

16 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoChristians, why was Jesus allowed in Temple/church?
God was not borne in Isreal. He is not an Isrealite.
Mary conceived a son outside of wedlock to a being that is not an Isrealite.
According to ancient law, this would make Jesus a bastard and bastards (and generations of their descendants) were not allowed into Temple (i.e. church).
So, why was Jesus allowed into Temple?
15 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhere did Jesus's original sin go?
1. Jesus was perfect and without sin.
2. Adam & Eve were cursed with original sin after eating the fruit from the tree of good & evil.
3. We inherit original sin from our parents... going all the way back to Adam & Eve.
4. Jesus was the son of God, but born from Mary... so Jesus should have inherited Mary's original sin.
17 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoCan you help me with this, regarding philosophy of Skepticism?
After all, I could just be a brain in a vat, or a butterfly dreaming of a man, or a god dreaming of being a man.
But I still play at my game. What else is there to do?
If my one of core theories fails a test, then my house may collapse and I'll be forced to start over with a new game, a new hand of cards.
And it is with this little game of perception and guesses, that i have built up my perceived reality.
I am a Skeptic.
3 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agois it a sin/wrong to conceive a child prior to marriage according to the OT?
I'm looking for bible references from the Old Testament regarding pre-marital sex, children born out of wedlock, or how the bible deals with bastards. Please help!
1 AnswerReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoI need a bible reference! Can you help?
I need a bible reference that supports the killing of heretics or blaphemers from the OLD TESTAMENT
(I already found Leviticus 24:16
24:16 And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shall be put to death.")
ANY OTHERS?
7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoChristians, can you watch my video and answer some of my questions?
I made a video about one of the major problems I have with christianity. I apologize for ranting, but I'd really appreciate some feedback from your side.

I'm talking "physically healing", like from leprosy, etc.
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoSo what are the best online atheist communities?
Yahoo360 had a thriving atheist faction until Yahoo drove 'em away.
YouTube still rocks for atheists, but it looks like the golden age there has passed by.
Stickam had a strong community, but the atheist chat rooms have all closed now.
So, what are currently the best atheist communities online?
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHas anyone who embraced the philosophy of skepticism ever converted to a religion?
I know some atheists who converted to theistic religions. I know some theists who converted to atheistic religions... but I've never met a Skeptic who converted to any religion.
Has there been any?
(please note that Anthony Flew never converted to a religion... only to Deism - which has no religion).
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy did Allah need Mohammed?
If Allah is omnipotent, omniscient, and benevolent, then why wouldn't he talk to everyone on earth directly instead of an intermediary prophet with a finite life?
It seems pretty obvious to me that a god that powerful would want to talk to each of us directly. A religion using prophets is usually a sign of a false religion.
3 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWas there ever actually a religion where a virgin was tossed into a volcano to appease their god?
I know we have a religion where they stapled a virgin male to a tree to appease their vengeful god... but I'm talking about the chucking of a female virgin into the volcano. Did a religion like that actually exist, or was it made-up?
15 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDoesn't being a christian mean that you worship human sacrifice?
I mean, if Jesus had to be tortured and killed so God would forgive us of our sins, doesn't that mean god wanted/needed a human sacrifice?
I don't understand what was noble about Jesus getting stapled to a tree... it seems absolutely insane and horrendous to me. Wouldn't a benevolent being require something other than torture and death in order to forgive?!?
11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow can a "perfect" human sacrifice be a good thing?!?
So, god required animal sacrifices in the OT, i.e. scapegoats (I'd like to know how that is moral or ethical). If god is the one who determines punishment and forgiveness, then why wouldn't he just forgive? Why would he need a human sacrifice to forgive others?!?!?!?!?
Some people have told me that god required blood sacrifice and the one thing he can't do is change his judgements because that would make him imperfect, but he did change what was moral when he made it so christians didn't have to follow all of the OT laws.
So, how can any human sacrifice (even a "perfect" one) be a good thing?!?
