I've read through all the answers here very quickly and uncarefully, and have found NO ONE answering "how many of you..." (trajic)

Well, I'll give you your answer and more!

"42" is the number of us who have thought about it.

Yes I'm one of the ones who thought about it. It seems to me that (if) God exists (as I imagine God to exist), then a small (hidden deeply) part of us is ready-made to connect to "Her / He / It / They." And possibly being talked-to all the time - if we'd just shut up and listen.

Further, all these current religions seem all full of dross with their taxes and "love-gifts" and indulgences.

I'm kinda stuck, though, on what to do about plural marriages. ;-)

Yup. It is a religion where people would be taught to read all sorts of religious and philosophical books, meditate on thoughts and come to their own conclusion. They would also share their ideas with others. They would also be taught critical thinking.

Respect would be given no matter the outcome, which could be theistic or atheistic (as long as others were not harmed due to that outcome and it remained seperate from state rule).

Wait, we don't need that as a religion. Should be happening anyway.

The thought has crossed my mind a few times but luckily I've been able to suppress such egotistical urges and am writing a fiction novel instead.

    Who hasn't?

There are absolutely bucket loads of money to be made from religion – pushing it or treating it … and all perfectly LEGAL – if only I could keep a straight face.

I thought about it, just how a person would go about it.
