Was there ever actually a religion where a virgin was tossed into a volcano to appease their god?

People have done and still do all sorts of crazy stuff in the name of religion over the years.

I doubt it, it would be too hard/hot to get that close. Could be some would go into fire for their soul to be the smoke that drifted into the heavens. There is reason to believe they would jump off cliffs into the sea/water. The dead were thrown into water in order to be reborn. Water has always been very sacred.

I think the Churches made up a lot of that stuff to make their believers feel "good" about slaughtering entire cultures.
