what about guns in public forum?

Back in the day's the west was won firearms were certainly a tool, but even then it was deemed necessary to enforce where you could and couldn't carry your weapon. The saloon's owners allowed no guns, the pastor of the church said no guns in the house of worship. As law enforcement tamed the west thought was given to the protection of the ordinary citizen that often was caught in the crossfire of street gunfights. This isn't the wild west anymore...why should we allow guns in public forums where they need not be?

We shouldn't. This is america. Everyone knows that americans has the right to bear arms. for hunting, protecting their property and families.

NOT for political town hall meetings.

It's not only stupid, its irresponsible. I think anyone that bring a weapon to a town hall meeting is making one point and one point only, "i'm an idiot".

The right to carry guns is not the topic of any of these town hall discussion. So there is NO reason for one to strap a gun to their thigh or have it on their waist outside these meetings, other than stupidity.

You are absolutely right, this is not the wild wild west anymore. But you have people in this country who act and live like it is. The fact that they may disagree with some political polices of our current administration does not give them the right to bear arms at a town hall meeting. That is not what that amendment had in mind. that is why as you mentioned, guns were not allowed to be carried in places that were deemed inappropriate.

The open carry of firearms is allowed by some states and it is the right of the citizen to carry arms openly in these states. Arizona and New Hampshire allow open carry of weapons. If politicians are not comfortable with this, they should stay out of these states. These people were carrying weapons on the street and not in town hall meetings. It's great to live in a free America.

they should be kept unless your job requires it, and the law should be reinforced on felons carrying guns. A public search should be allowed of any ex con to ensure he is free of arms or anyone charged with a crime, because the gun in their is what kills a lot of people .tje same with street gangs ,that would stop the murders of kids by gangs

Arizona is pushing the envelope on that issue and its getting national publicity. I live in Tempe though, and I never see people carrying in the valley.

    I know, I know.

America is terribly unreasonable about this- 40,000 americans die every year from gunfire, in the USA nearly 2 million violent crimes are commited every year with guns, and yet you still defend your right to carry guns. And then this kind of thing happens: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/hotstories/656...

Source(s): Common sense, cold hard fact.

They aren't necessary at town hall meetings and people shouldn't bring guns. If they want to protest Obama's stand on guns - fine - do it at a gun rally. The health insurance reform debates aren't about gun control. They are just doing what they can to create conflict and chaos. And they think they are good Americans. What fools.

"why should we allow guns in public forums where they need not be?"

You're not qualified to determine if I need to have a firearm with me. My right to defend myself supersedes your "right" to opine as to whether I need a gun there or not.
