Windows Vista Licensing?

I bought Windows Vista Ultimate for my laptop some time ago. I am in the process of putting Vista on an external Hard Drive. So my question is, can i use that same license number for the external Hard Drive, or am I out of luck?

Update:

But if i don't activate it, then won't it expire in 30 days?

I've done that with windows xp using two hard drives with the same key. Is it legal? not sure. Will they track you? no, not if it is personal use.

I think you're out of luck. Yes, you can put it there, but when you try to activate it, the license key is already used by your other copy.

Yes you can! But please be sure you will not activate it, nor take updates to it. Because Windows will state that it not legal or someone has used that license..
