I fed my dog a piece of shrimp. He dropped it and rolled on it, then he repeated this all over the house? Why?
So why would he do this He just kept running through the house with the one shrimp dropping it and rolling on it. I finally sent him outside with it. He is a Kelpie.
I sent him outside because my carpets were beginning to smell shrimpy, he loves being outside. Oh I do wish he I had the camera rolling, he never ate the shrimp just rolled on it.

Seafood has a certain aromic smell to them so they love to roll the scent all over.

This instinctive behavior goes waaaaay back to your dogs ancestors. Teh behavior of rolling in "stinky things" was used because it masked the scent of the predator (your dog) while he was hunting.

He probably thinks it's a toy. Dogs love to play with stuff. My dog, Max, loves to chew on a lot of things he can rip apart. He thinks those things are toys.

Dogs love smell of fish, especially rotten one. They will roll in it, its like a perfume for them.

Sounds like he is more interested in playing with it than eating it. My dogs do this sometimes too, picking up milkbone type treats in their mouths and tossing it across the room so they can go fetch it.

Why would you send him outside for this? It cracks me up when my dog does it. It's just a dog thing. Mine actually does it with his bowl or with his dental sticks.
