Fluorescent light bulbs: What's the catch?

Fluorescent light bulbs: (The ones that are twisty instead of bulb-ish) the commercials say there brighter and cheaper. Is there a catch to these, or are they really that good?

They contain mercury, some make noise when they run, they have a delay between when you flip the switch when and it actually turns on, the quality of light isn't as good as incandescent, most of them are an ugly swirl, but sometimes you can find them that actually look like a light bulb. When they burn out, the environmentalists tweak if you throw them away, so they are a pain in the *** to get rid of if you even distantly care about the opinion of environmentalists (which I don't).

bad thing is that they have mercury in them so be very careful with them and don't drop them..if you do happen to drop it then open a window and dont breath in the air to much and then in like 10 min pick up the glass..make sure you dont cut yourself!!
