Go to the smithsonians. Other museums like the Newseum, the Holocaust Museum, the spy museum, and the museum of srime & punishment are really good and fun too.
You could visit the mouments but i live in d.c. and i've probably been in the mouments like a hundred times and i'm not that interested in them.. but a lot of people enjoy it. If its a nice day, then its good to just walk around. It's also nice to come at night and see the city lit up over the potomac. If you walk around, go into georgetown because its very nice and there are some good places to eat/shop.
You coud always try to get tickets to a play at either the Kennedy center or the Shakespeare theatre. Both put on very good plays. Visit the zoo, too. I never get bored of the zoo :)

Washington DC is really not a place to look for fun..but history.
Depending on how old you are you might enjoy the Smithsonian Museum..it's actually 15 buildings, and will take a few days to get through even 1/2 of them. A tour on Gray line buses will take you to all the highlight areas of Washington, you can see the Monuments to jefferson, Lincoln, Arlington Cemetery, Viet Nam wall.

One great thing to do is go to the Smithsonian Museums. They are all free and magnificent. Another thing I did was see the Spy Museum. It shows you many centuries of what spies used and did. Very interesting.
If you're interested in a White House tour, email or call your senator. If you do you'll get a very personal tour, mine was 5 people when most public tours have many many more. It's great.
There are also many bus tours you can take, find one of the double decker bus tours, they're fun.
