Is there another cat registry besides cfa?

I have 2 cfa persians, but the lady i bought the male from wont give me the breeding registration number. I asked her for it for over a year and she kept telling me that she doesnt know it. (impossible of course). Is there another registry i can register these cats with a breed them? The male is an absolutely perfect persian with a wonderful personality and it would be a shame if that line stopped with him. thanks in advance

Update:

actually, he is registered. she just didnt give me the breeding pin number. there were no stipulations about breeding. I bought him 2 years ago and never gave it another though, until be became such a good cat, and his appearance turned out to be perfect.

If she isn't giving you the registration then there's nothing to prove his pedigree so you can't register him with ANY registry. Yes - there are others - ACFA, TICA (the world's largest) to name a couple - but again, you're out of luck without his info.

Another thing could be that you purchased this cat as "pet quality" with the stipulation that you would alter the cat once it was six months old. You obviously haven't so that could be why she's withholding their paperwork. If she did give you his paperwork then you could go on to breed HER lines which you have not been given permission to do.

More likely is that you're dealing with a backyard breeder and these maybe isn't even a CFA registered cat. She could have just said that so you paid more money for it. She's probably not breeding show quality animals from Champion lines - so you shouldn't be breeding your cats. And besides, personality is not heriditary. Reputable breeders don't sell unaltered cats unless the cattery's chosen the cat to be part of their breeding program. And in that case, the breeder tends to retain all breeding rights.

I think you should be more concerned about your cat than his papers. Was he PKD tested? Reputable breeders test for Polycystic Kidney Disease - bad breeders don't. Which means they continue to breed PKD+ animals and produce and sell PKD+ kittens. And a cat with PKD can go into renal failure and die as young as four years old.

If you want more Persians - go adopt someone. Due to how high maintenance they are sadly the Persian is one of the breeds most often dumped at shelters or simply kicked out to the streets where they're later picked up by animal control as filthy, skinny matted strays.

Source(s): I have three shelter cats that are now TICA show cats and know lots of breeders from shows.
