Looking into buying a Jeep Wrangler and wondering about my options...?

I am interested in buying a Jeep, probably the Wrangler but I don't know a lot about he different types of Jeeps out there to do some comparison. The Jeep website is annoying to navigate and seems to only display the current years model, and I don't plan on buying a new one so that site is no help at all. Here is what I want:

I want a manual transmission, removable top (hard or soft top), either a 4 door, or one that has at least some space between the back seat and the back of the vehicle (at least some trunk space).

Basically as long as it is the convertible style, stick shift, and there is enough room for me to throw my tent and my luggage in the back to go camping, then I am happy. Does anyone know of which type of Jeep would fit into that category? Or of a website (with pictures) that tells about Jeeps so that I can do more research?

I would greatly appreciate any input. I'm just now saving up for one, so I have loads of time to make my decision, I just like to get a head start on these things.

The most recent Wrangler, the JK model, comes in 2 and 4 door. Keep in mine that the prior model, TJ was stretched so there is a little more room in them than the earlier CJ models. After market support for the CJ, TJ are huge. So you should easily be able to find a way to increase your storage capabilities with any Wrangler you buy.

I personally have a Jeep Cherokee, XJ. My wife and I are planning to get a TJ "Wrangler" for her. As mentioned by the other poster, the in line 6 (4.0L) is near bullet proof. I personally will not have another engine in a Jeep. That engine is not available for the new JK Wranglers.

I would recommend a TJ in the 1998+ range. You should be able to find one for between $10k and $15k. I would also recommend the hard top, and get a soft top, or a bikini top for it.

im lookin into one additionally. ive heard the clutches bypass plenty, and counting on in case you will carry it, the fast wheelbase doesnt enable plenty room for a improve kit, by using fact your driveshaft would be on too steep of an attitude. for that reason, you will snap your u-joints on a time-honored foundation. you ought to wedge the axle, yet once you're no longer likely to enhance it or get a stickshift, choose for the inline-6 4.0L for specific, a super number of torque and that they final invariably. JEEP=merely Empty each Pocket. My uncle instructed me a sturdy wager may be to get a Wrangler or CJ Jeep with a a million/2 ton suspension and set up a Volkswagen Rabbit rapid diesel inline 4 or inline 5. you are able to run rubbish via those rabbits, merely run bio-diesel Im getting one this summer time, and that they are exciting. no longer too many others obtainable so which you will take off the roof and doorways contained in the summertime... automated inline-6, merely habitual upkeep. or the recent JK series Wrangler has a three.8 V-6. sturdy success!

Sounds like you want the TJ Unlimited model. It has an extended trunk area. Personally I would recommend the 4.0 I6, that is a great motor. But if you can't find an unlimited you an always buy a regular TJ and get the rack that goes over the spare tire, that would give you some extra space for storage.

Yeah your best bet would be the 4-door JK, or the TJ unlimited, the TJ would be a 2 door, but does have more room, than a regular TJ. But also remember that jeep for some reason, made the new JK as a 2wd option as well

I love my 2007 4-dr Wrangler. It has the 3 piece freedom top for easy removal. Check out the website:

The wrangler only came in two door. The cherokee was the four door one, but then it wasn't a convertible. The wrangler does have the fold-away seat in the rear though, so fold it down and see if it has enough space. The cherokee also has the seat, but it also has a sizeable trunk behind that so folding it away isn't a requirement.

The ones with the inline 6 engine were absolutely bullet proof cars. The inline fours were good, but prone to cooling problems.

The V6s and V8s are junk.
