Child and Teen Television effecting future generations?
Do you think that the mentally insulting programs on MTV and the Disney Channel (Dora the Explorer, c'mon) specifically are harming our children in the long run? I can't seem to understand why a parent would allow, or even encourage, their children to watch these programs. Why aren't we showing our kids informative shows like those on the Discovery Science Channel or NatGeo?
Don't tell me, "Kids will be kids!" either. We all know that they will take interest and soak up pretty much anything placed infront of them so why dumb down your own off spring like that?

I completely agree. I wrote a final paper on this during college. TV programming (and movies) today are ridiculous for adults and children. The American Pediatrics Association says children under age 2 should not watch any TV, ages 2-4 only one hour per day. After that, it should increase by half hour for each age. Do most parents know this? Nope. If they did I'm not sure if they could sacrifice their babysitter TV set.
There are educational channels like the ones you mentioned. I don't have a TV but NatGeo is the only channel I miss. Parents rely on the TV to entertain their children but don't realize that none of those garbage Disney or Nickelodeon shows educate kids. Hannah Montana is the worst show I've seen and yet 5 year olds idolize her.
People need to take control of what their children are watching. Its exactly the same as what they are eating. They digest this trash and it doesn't make their brain any healthier.
